My future wife (haha) wants to know what this song means, with its famous chorus of 'I've got soul, but I'm not a soldier'. Any eager experts out there on interpreting song lyrics able to help me on this one?

I've got soul, but I'm not a soldier means he's always had this passion and desire to be a good man, to live righteously, and to be this marvelous person, but he's never had the strength to carry on. This man finds weakness in his life.

The song lines up with this meaning.

I think that this man realized just how impossible it is to be that man he dreams of being.

He cries out to God why he doesn't work with him or help him.
It's religious, to an extent, but not very deeply. But then again, anyone who tries to be what they want to be, definitely have tried at some time to resort to a spiritual influence, whether it be meditation or anything else. Think of your fight to be that person you want to be, that fight for perfection, and listen to the song again. Even if you're not spiritual, it captures something inside of us all. GREAT song.

what concerns that part of'I've got soul, but I'm not a soldier' ..well as i understand it, a word soul (its pronounciation) sounds exactly like pronounciation of the beginning of a word soldier(SOULdier lol)..a wordplay i guess..nth more..ahhh so not deep explanation lol:)

to cut a long story short, could we say 'I've got soul' mean "I'm a lover" and 'but i'm not a soldier' mean "not a fighter".

lol i don't know what other deeper way to put it.
