In the town of Jena there is about 350 African Americans. How I feel about it is this. It is a tragedy. Both sides were wrong, and the punishment for each of the parties was not fare by any means. In any other city in the USA these students would not be charged to the max. Attempted murder probably would not have come up at all. Anger management classes. Definitely a juvenile detention center. More to the point. The racial tension in this town has been boiling for a minute. And of course it over flowed to the youth in that town. Our children follow our example the basic beliefs that we have we pass on to them.

I think that both sides are wrong. The white boys shouldn't have hung the noose and whatever else they did to start the trouble and the '6' shouldn't have physically assaulted the white boy.
Even if the DA can't charge the white boys with anything criminal I think they still should be held responsible for their actions. Even if it is just being suspended from school or expelled.
And as for the '6' they did assault that one guy so they also should be held responsible for their actions.
All of these people are old enough to know right from wrong, even though they are still basically kids.

Also I would like to add if it was 6 white guys that beat the crap out of one black guy then I think the charges would have been the same. Actually I think it would have been worse because then it would have been a 'hate crime' (hmmm wasn't that what this was???)
Btw if it was the other way around I think that there wouldn't be any white people rallying around the 6white boys because we would all be saying well they shouldn't have frickin done what they did. Get over it.

Also I would like to add that what the white boys did with hanging the noose and claiming the tree for just whites was wrong and that should've been stopped by the school administrative workers. I think that the school (and the parents) should be held partly responsible for letting the white kids believe that what they were doing was ok even for a minute.

the concern with Jena 6 is that outdoors human beings and media misrepresented it as a race venture. this is a school safety venture. I paintings at a bad, rural intense college the place if pupils get into actual altercations, we've them arrested and document costs against them regardless of their race. this is because of the fact in recent times, adolescents (boys specially) think of not something of thrashing the snot out of somebody and in basic terms getting a slap on the wrist. particular, the noose incident become stupid and insensitive and become dealt with the main useful outcomes the college had attainable. Beating a pupil subconscious with the aid of 6 pupils is risky and existence threatening. We had a toddler die some years in the past from a single freak blow with the aid of one pupil on yet another. the two infants have been black, so no person made a race venture of it. we can't save minimizing college violence with the aid of using race as a purple herring.

Can't vote? If they are citizens and are of legal age, of course they can vote. Vote on what?

The white kids did not claim that tree ( good grief, how stupid is that??) and the school did not allow them to do so. Schools don't give a flying fig where kids eat as long as they do so peacefully.

The white kids had been eating somewhere else. Then, the black kids decided they wanted to eat there. So, the white kids moved over to the tree. No big deal. It's not sacred ground. Guess what. The black kids decided they wanted the tree too.

Two months later six black kids assaulted Justin Barker. The tree had nothing to do with it.

I'm not clear on what you are talking about in the "can't vote" portion of your question. True, most blacks do not live inside the Jena City Limits. Most of them live in a small community called Good Pine. However they all live inside LaSalle Parish, so voting for the most part is for either Parish or State elections. Like I said, I'm not sure where voting comes into play.

I think it's pathetic on two sides. On one side it's pathetic because it shouldn't matter what race the person is if they committed a crime. The white kids did the same exact thing, but for some reason it's more serious when black kids do it? That reason is because there are more white people in that city. The other reason it's pathetic because the town doesn't want to be noticed for what's going on there, they don't want to be remembered for everyone being so racist. I think that just shows that they know they shouldn't have discriminated and punished one group without punishing the other group just the same.

Hanging nooses is just backwoods and stupid.
Obviously there has been something going on with these students prior to all of this.
But to beat the crap out of someone so badly that they almost killed him, oh well, the kids who did it got caught, and maybe this is what goes around comes around. No one came to the aid of Regonald Denny, the white truck driver who was beaten on National TV, hit with a brick in the head during the L.A. riots!!!!
They did it, they got caught. I don't care if your Purple!!!!
You beat someone, you get caught, now you pay the piper!!
We hard working Americans of all colors, are SICK of the violence!!!

i truly believe that town is filled with racism from both sides.
White AND Black

I think Jesse Jackson & Al Sharpton went in there and made fools of the black people. Jesse Jackson made me sick when he said they should have probation - NOT - they should get something worse than probation. What's ol' Jesse gonna do when the one that has all those prior convictions winds up killing somebody one day? Well, that's when ol' Jesse will be hiding behind the luxuries of his mansion in Beverly Hills - nope - you won't hear a word out of him then! Unless it's a white woman - then he'll say she deserved it!!
BUT I believe the white boys involved in the days leading up to the beating should be charged too
They are equally involved.
I get sick of hearing black people cry racism when it's not - in this case - IT WAS RACISM - on both sides

what? voting is allowed to everyone over the age of 18 (non felons of course). i live in louisiana (not jena) and i think it is being blown out of proportion. but it's another soap box for al sharpton and jesse jackson to stand on and push their propaganda. racism is a business for them and if it didn't exist then they would be out of business.
was it publicised that he mayor of jena (who is black) asked that there be no afterparties in jena because he wanted no part of it in his town.
how come you never hear about the race related things that happen the other way around? what about the 6 black people who beat up one white person? why is there no public outcry about that?
what about another louisiana incident where two black men beat and robbed an 80 year old woman and when her son (who is a fireman) came to rescue her the men beat him over the head and set him on fire? he burned to death... did you ever hear about that on the news? i didn't think so, but i went to the funeral for that fireman and it was heartbreaking and that family is going thru a horrible time right now. where is the media?

propaganda.

I think if it were 6 white kids on one black, it would be a different story. And where was Al and Je$$e when they found that girl in West Va abused and beaten in a shed? Nowhere to be seen, no $$$$$, no cameras, no black guys stirring up trouble. let the school solve its own problems, it's not in my state, and I don't have any concerns over that area at all.
