There has been some controversy over this issue the last few days, so I'd like to make my point of view clear, to avoid any misunderstanding.
1. I don't use thumbs up/down based on liking or disliking specific people, but on the specific answer each time.
2. I only use thumbs down when
a. I have a strong disagreement with some answer, regardless of the person, and regardless if it concerns a personnal opinion. For example, if an answer is in favour of the death penalty, which I am against, I would thumb it down, even if the person is my friend
b. I think teh content of the answer is scientifically wrong (if for example someone says that a kitten should be given cow's milk, I'd thumb down, because I know it gives them diarrhea).
3. I don't necessarily answer the question myself. I may give thumbs up and down in one question, without answering. Thus, it is normal that there are more thumbs up/down than answers.
Do you agree?

Ha ha, as for cats and milk, adult cats usually have no problem, but small kittens, right after they are weaned, get the runs with cow's milk.

I agree, i often also thumbs up answers that I want to add a bit to or extend on. I don't thumbs down people because I don;t like them or I am against them I thumbs down because I disagree or that it is actually wrong like you say about the milk (although I would have to disagree with that haha because our cats have milk and they are fine with it!!) but yes I know exactly what you mean, and I try not to take it personally if people thumbs down me

The answer is where it is at, the thumbs are like an abstract exclaimation point. People, also generally have strong feelings for what they are against. People generally take things they love for granted, so you are correct about the ratio.

I totally agree. Actually I very rarely give thumbs down. Even if I don't agree with an answer I won't give a thumbs down, unless I find it dangerous advice, or offensive.

I think Yahoo shouldn't let the anonymous thumbs...
If we could see who put the thumbs down, I am sure that there would be much less.

I agree 100%.

I give thumbs up to a person if the answer is good and serves its purpose, even if I don't like the guy himself .

I give thumbs down to bad, worthless and harrasing answers- they also get my special treat; the abuse report :)- even if they are from my dear friends.

They all know it, I am fair :)

I thing there should be a restriction to how people use thumbs (or reports to be honest)...and it seems that Y/A doesn't control the process at all...
