Go for it - embracing change is a good but there will be challenges along the way. In everything we do in life we can take with us the experience of past events. You will have much that you have learned in the IT field that can be applied to other adventures in life. We have one life - make the most of it. Most people will go through 4 career changes in their life time. The worst thing that can happen is if this new adventure is not what you wanted - at least you will know that and you will always have IT to fall back on.

I know in school they told you that formal education is all about what you learn now affecting the rest of your life. Well I'm here to tell you they were talking absolute whats-its...!
Education is what you gain throughout life and ok, you might have spent a few years getting a degree in X subject, but that doesn't mean what you learned wasn't relevent in Y job. A huge amount of the world relies on IT in some way or another and that's one skill you will find in demand.
My honest advice is go with what you feel is best and if you want a change in direction then do it now. Don't wait until you're 40 and having a midlife crisis....27 is nowhere near too old to change!

You are still very young. Everything you do in life is preparation for the rest of your life. You must take advantage of every good opportunity that comes your way and if it means shifting to something new, all the better. If someone thinks you can do it, then you must have prepared in some way. IT work can be used in almost every facet of life, and I am sure it will be an asset in your next move. Good luck!

No, its never too early or too late to change the direction of one's life. Deciding if something is a waste of time is best reserved as an afterthought and subject to a lot of variables. For one thing, don't listen to people whot tell you that doing something is a waste of time.

SURE! It is never too late to do what makes you happy. Do what you like without caring what shall be the reaction of people around you. If anything gives you the satisfaction you are lacking go for it. You never know. Your decition may turn out to be extremely fruitful one. But see to it that you are determined about your decition.Be strong enough to face the cnsequnces.I mean there are people whomay try to discourage you. Stay away from them.Hope my advise may be useful.

God, I hope not!
I'm 28, and my life isn't what I want it to be yet.
You know, they say most people change careers several times in life. So I don't think it's too late to go in a different direction, no matter how old you are.

If the direction is always up and reaching your happiness to the fullest, its good to have social responsibility but think also of your personal happiness which is our life's ultimate goal in order to share it to others for a regretfree world of yours in the future. I know an 84 year old women who just finished a degree, i asked why she went back to school and why she choose to change her career? she said "it is never a waste of time to change your life, to be happy or to change your mind, its only to late when your dead" Do what makes you happy, you're still young enough to go back if you feel you need to.

for me the decision is still up to you.. if you feel hesitant in your decision, then don't continue.. but if you feel that you should do it or you feel that there's a calling or a need for you to do it, then do it! if you have that kind of feeling, then no one can stop you.. for me, age cannot set boundaries on our decisions in life. the only boundaries are ourselves.. our weaknesses.. it would not be a waste of time if you think it can make your life better and make you a better person. good luck on what decision you would make!=)

if you're going to continue you're carrer that you are having right now, and you are not happy, then that thing is what you call 'waste of time'.... but if you're going to change the direction of your life to pursue the things that would make you happy, it will not be a waste of time... because you're doing what will make you happy and what will make your life worthy... remember that time will not be wasted whenever it is spent on worthy things... it is going to be wasted if you've finished a task, but then you're not happy about it, and you yourself don't appreciate it...
