Well, that may have been true with the old high radiation cathode ray tube monitors. But most computers and all laptops these days have flatscreen LCD monitors which are only harmful if used in the dark for days on end.

Yes. It takes 200 years, 24 hours a day, 7days a week. Some things never change. My mother told me I would go blind from something else. I am happy to report I did not.

You wont go blind by using computer monitor.
Adjust the settings of it to reduce the eye strain.

Ha ha, tell your mom to stop watching soap operas.
Kidding aside, staring too long on the monitor strains you eyes. Depending on age, the strain tends to cause temporary difficulty in focusing at far distances, headaches and perhaps astigmatism. You just need frequent breaks to relax/unstrain your eyes.

I dont think it will make you go blind but if you are on it for ages then your eyes may start to ache. I shouldnt worry about it...

Your Mom is just worried about you,and your health,you can keep your eye sight as it is by wearing an anti reflection eye glasses especially for wearing when using the PC.
