I was reading an article on wikipedia about how some people believe that the world we see around us exists only in our imagination, and that no one else around us really exists. Our mind alone (yours or mine, whosever point you are looking from) is the only concious one and anyone else you see is not really concious.

I hope someone out there can tell me the name of that theory. Pretty long and difficult word to spell but can someone point me in the right direction? Thanks!

I think Norm is right. It is Solipsism. But I think your view is a little off. I think what they are saying is that your consciousness is the only consciousness you can be aware of and that you must operate that way and not try to consider what other people are conscious of. It is very difficult to prove that anything really exists and Descartes's idea that "I think therefore I am" is the only thing we can prove, so he thought. I myself do not believe that is any proof at all. But each of us can only be aware of what we ourselves think and it may be the only thing we can be sure of - everything else is a belief, not necessarily a fact. In my view, the idea of existence is a really good theory.
Einstein, I believe, proposed that our consciousness of the world around us can be thought of as following a time-space continuum and that at any point in time many other time-space continuums exist. The one we are aware of is only one possibility among many.

In the documentary "What The Bleep Do We Know?!" they talk about the concept of "reality."
You could find here 2 interviews about the documentary:

www.guba.com ---> search: what the bleep

If you want to find more about it, you can search and download it from the Internet. Now, they made part 2, more like an update of the first.

Hope it helps.

Later edit: yes, it is Solipsism, just found out.

Didn't the Wikipedia page tell you the name of it?

Sounds rather like a Matrix based theory, although for a heck of a lot of years I thought that this was all a dream and one day I'd wake up as a caveman (think I read Stigg of the Dump).

Watch a solipsist stick their finger into an electrical outlet and see if they have the same reaction as everyone else. Solipsism is BS.
