I know most people hate them but it is annoying when the machine says 6 messages or what ever and only 2 folk have spoken.

I don't feel I am talking to a machine, I know I am leaving a message to the person I was trying to reach. And I always leave a message, even if I made a mistake reaching the wrong number, I apologize.

I used to not ever leave a message, it was this horrid fear I had of speaking into an answering machine. Now, I always leave some sort of a message, except when I call my one sister, who NEVER listens to the message anyways. She just calls me back without playing it, so I never bother anymore. Leaving messages on an answering machine is a learned art for most people, and not many people realize that. There should be a class called "answering machine message leaving, 101."

I hate phones to begin with. If I am calling someone I know, then I will probably leave a message. But if I don't know the person really really well, then I just hang up.

I leave a message even though I really hate the way I sound on them. I am 49 and sound like I am 12 and people call me and ask to speak to my mother.

I hate it when the message is so long and I am paying for the call.
I leave messages. I do not have a machine- people SPEAK UP!

let me explain this to you simpletons. an answering machine, is used to collect messages, when people are not at home, or cannot come and answer the relephone, at certain times. there is nothing dangerious in useing them.
If you tryed calling some one, and you get their machine, respond and leave your mesage.If you don't, and a very important message does not get through, It is your fault, dummy, for cowering away from it.

I don't consider it speaking to a machine - I consider it conveying a message to you, relayed by a device...the only time I won't leave a message is if it is a "time sensitive" question and if you ain't home, it doesn't matter if you hear the message...Savvy? (^-^)

I leave a message if its important. Whats a answer phone? Do you mean voice mail?
