Our experiences with MB are mixed I must say.
First we had a 560SEC 1989 and it was a great car, stayed with us for many years and never gave any trouble.
Than we had the 2002 CLK320, which was very pretty, but a bad car and high mantainence, not fun to drive and unreliable.
Now we have the 2003 CL500 and are very pleased with it, it has behaved very well and I would give it a 9 out of 10.
Severl friends of ours have smaller MB and they are all not satisfied. I guess MB are good when they are expensive and larger models, 500 and up. I hope you are lucky with your car, because you know, it is a matter of luck too. There are cars that come out of the factory and start with the trouble right away, and there are cars with an guardian angel.... and as long as you mantain them correctly, will be reliable forever and ever....

Mercedes-Benzes from 1996 onwards have suffered a distinct downgrade in quality and reliatbility from previous years. However this has begun to change since the new S class (W221 model).

Your C230 I'm afraid comes in the latter category, my friends with this model have had a problem or two. Just make sure that before the warranty runs out, any problems that you may encounter is fixed (whether this being the radio not working or what not) or else fixing it will be expensive. Having said that the reliability is average when comparing with all cars in general.

With regards to parts, what you need to remember about MB spare parts is that you can get almost any part for any MB car after WW2, as long as you are prepared to pay for it. So you if you plan on having this car a while, you wont have problems sourcing parts unlike Japanese cars whose manufacturers typically don't stock anything over 15 years.

Cheers

Jon

Mercedes Benz cars need expensive servicing and repair to keep all the maintence done. This is sometime a service contract or the owner just takes in the car for 5 to 6 days out of service a year. Hope your dealer has a service loan car. Benz owners brag at the country club My MB just cost ne 2,000 to have the major service performed. Key to keeping cars alive is frequent oilchanges and clean airfilters.

My father had an '03 S 500 and it was nothing but crap. The thing started having little things go wrong within a year of owning it. Most people would dismiss little problems, but when your previous three cars were Lexuses and you only saw the dealer for regular maintenance, these small issues can be annoying. Second year, the eletrical problems began emerging. Navigation, phone, A/C, power seats, all start having repeated problems.
He finally got rid of it and bought an 06 E55 last year. I don't understand why after his first M-B experience but he did. Already had the check engine light come on four different times and the power seat issue has the car in the shop as we speak. Good luck with yours. You might not have any issues. but I've learned that most Mercedes-Benz owners that have problems won't tell you anyway.

C-class reliability is very poor. alot of mercedies newer products have poor reliability. BMW and Audi both have better reliability the warrenty should help though make sure you get everything it need done wile you have the warenty. they are very nice cars that seem to be plagued with anoying problems. i would keep it untill the warrenty is up and based on its record until that point decide whether i would keep it further or sell it. German car a expensive to maintain even without problems and if yours proves to be a problematic one you will want to sell it by 100K or so.

Typically, luxury cars are built with tons of gadgets that are nice when they're new.

However, luxury cars aren't built to be run for hundreds of thousands of miles either as the target market for them don't really care about keeping it for long if they've got the money to go out and get the latest and greatest.
