wow, we ARE mutants -- red hair is a genetic mutation.

Harvard Dermatologist Madhu Pathak calls us redheads
"three-time losers" because the red pigment is an inadequate filter of sunlight and skin is more susceptible to sunburn, skin cancer and wrinkling with age.

Hey, we are not losers though!

The gene that causes red hair is called MC1R.
No matter what your hair colour, everyone has this gene,
The red hair version of this gene, though, has slight changes that cause the red hair color.
A mutation!

If only one of your MC1R copies has these changes, you won’t have red hair, but you will be a carrier of the red hair gene.

One of the reasons red hair has stuck around for as long as it did is that people didn’t used to travel very much. There were pockets of red hair, like in some areas of Scotland. In these small areas, the chance that two carriers would meet and have redheaded children was very high

My children do not have red hair, but maybe the grandchildren will ...
and I do agree with Kathy_is_a_nurse.

Yes, you're immature. You're basing your decision on a GF on her hair color. Say it to yourself again. Hair. Color. It's one thing to like a color better or worse, but it's another thing to base whether or not you are going to form a (assumably) lasting and meaningful relationship with a person based on a physical feature. If this is how you're going to judge the girl, be nice to her, don't date her. If you can get over this, which you can by getting to actually know and value the person on her own merit, then go for it. If not, go ahead and be as shallow and image driven as you want, just don't expect others to find it a good character trait.

Just a comment from a former OB nurse. I noticed the article said there was no evidence of the belief that red heads bleed more, but I can tell you anecdotally, that whenever a red head gave birth on our floor the nurses always watched her more closely for postpartal bleeding. There certainly seemed to be more of a problem for them.

the recessive gene they have causes the red hair not the red hair causes recessive gene lol

my niece has bright auburn hair and has just achieved 9 gcse's, 6 A*s and 4 A's. She had her tonsils out under general anaesthetic last year with no resistance to the anaesthetic and she doesn't find the need to wear sunglasses anymore than anyone else. she is definitely not weird.
