Ah, word problems.
When you hear ( or see) the word OF think multiplication. In order to find the answer you need to convert the percentage to a decimal. In order to do that, you have to move the decimal 2 spaces to the left. You would get .05
Now multiply .05 times 97340.8. Thats how to get your answer

Percentage is always based on a scale of 0-100 unless you are talking football where it seems some players are capable of giving more than they can give, Howard Cossel (sp).
Anyway it is easy to find the multiplier when you are looking for a percentage of a value. Since percentage is based on a 0-100% scale your multiplier will always be your percentage in this case 5 with the decimal point shifted 2 places to the left. So 5 % is = to .05, 25% is equal to .25 and 12.5% would be = to .125. This becomes your multiplier.
Once you have your multiplier just multiply your total (97340,8) by your multiplier (.05) for your answer (467.04).

A percentage is the "parts per hundred" of the whole. So 5% is equivalent to 5/100, or .05 in decimal.
To find p percent of quantity q, the formula is
q * p/100
To find out what percentage number a is of number b:
100 * a/b

An easier way to do it is to do this is to find 1%, which you do by dividing it by 100, and then times the 1% by 5, which will give you 5%.
But if you have to actually write how you did it, the posts above mine are better.

"Percent" means "out of 100", so you make a fraction with 5 in the numerator and 100 in the denominator. "Of" means multiply.
