this is a popular misunderstanding of the greek proverb 'hon hoi theoi filousin neos apothneskei'.

what the greek actually means is that if god (it is 'the gods' in the original) blesses you you will never lose the enthusiasm and zest of youth, you will keep both always no matter what age you reach.

a better translation is : 'anyone god loves dies fresh'.

and this is completely true.

We all die, young, old and in between. No one is loved more or less. We just chose to justify a death in any way it makes it understandable for us. Like the good die young, they have accomplished what they were meant to do in life, god needed them in heaven, all thoughts that make death mean something more than it is, just the body dying.

This logic is seriously flawed. What about the young men who hijacked the planes that went into the twin towers, or how about Timothy Mcveigh who is responsible for the Oklahoma city bombing? They were all quite young, so does this mean God favors them more? Depending on what you consider old you could also say that Adolf Hitler was young when he died.

Nope... I mean, this doesn't make sense.

Now, you're here asking this silly question. You are still alive. Does this mean God hates you? Will you agree?

God loves every person in this world. In fact, every living thing in this world. This those-whom-God-loves-die-young thing is said just to console others. Don't believe in it, kiddie.

Well...in religious terms it sounds qute all right....but for a person with a scientific temper, this concept doesnt make any sense.

however, this saying has a tail to it...those whom god loves die young...and you are still on earth because there is somebody who love you more than God...Let's believe so...

No. The priest says that God loves everybody. Not everybody is dying young!

yes, but this quote goes two ways, this is for those young that do something good for others and usually fight a battle that is bigger than their life and mostly have to sacrifice themselves at a young age. in other words god loves everyone but those who try to do good deeds mostly go to god alto sooner and hardly ever live a full life....

people say that to console others but i think people die young due to mental problems, accidents etc.but god loves everybody so there's no point telling god takes the lives of loved ones.

Thats ridiculous. I suppose He didn't like Mother Theresa much or most of the Popes for that matter. Hmmm, maybe you have a point after all.
