Do you mean LA (Louisiana) and MS (Mississippi)?
These aren't all set there, but...
In the Heat of the Night
Smokey in the Bandit (greatest movie ever. PERIOD)
Color Purple
Diving Miss Daisy
Life
Cool Hand Luke

-Southern Comfort (Louisiana National Guardsmen on summer maneuvers in the swamps...things don't go so well with the 'neighbors')
-Mississippi Masala (people from India move to MI)
-Angel Heart (Lisa Bonet [hot, hot, hot], Mickey Rourke and Robert DeNiro); a real mind-bender of a movie.
-movies about Huey Long (Kingfish, etc.)
-Winter Kills (set mostly in Texas, about an 'alternative' explanation as to how JFK was killed and why and who did it; by Richard Condon who also wrote The Manchurian Candidate).
-the Elmore Leonard movies (set mostly in Florida)
-To Kill a Mockingbird
-Giant (about Texas oilmen, etc.)
-Cool Hand Luke
-Glory
-Hud (with Paul Newman
-The Alamo (John Wayne's epic.)
-Red Badge of Courage (Civil War movie based on Stephen Crane's classic book).
-Andersonville (about the Confederate prisoner-of-war camp for Union soldiers).
-Body Heat (this movie caused every wind chime ever made to be sold out for years afterwards.)
-Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil (the book is better, but seeing Savannah on the screen: priceless!)
-Sweet Bird of Youth (Paul newman is a 'barn burner' and Ed Begley Sr. gives an Academy Award-winning performance: his "cut the mustard" scene is priceless.)
there are dozens more, but these are some of my favorites
by the way: LA = LOUISIANA.....LO = loser

I personally thought Ghosts of Missippi was a great movie.
Driving Miss Daisy was a fantastic movie, too.
And, not "deep south", but Forrest Gump is still an incredible film, and it's "south enough".
