Very often and usually after physical activity which could be sport or work. I used to get it in the calf, ham string and groin etc. Even in the intercostal chest muscles. If I was lucky I would get it in one leg at a time. If unlucky I had it in both legs at the same time. The treatment if you get it is to stretch the muscle concerned and keep is so until the pain subsides. The cure or near cure is to drink plenty of water during any physical work or exercise. It more or less cured my continual bouts of cramp.

Everyone experiences cramps. If one takes cold water bath after a heavy exercise, one shall get those definitely. Many children experience growth cramps during growth-spurt years. Cramps do occur after an attack of diarrhoea. Usually a cramp is a manifestation of pain produced due to muscle spasm due to accumulation of lactic acid. However this may be a bad signal of arterial narrowing due to atherosclerosis particularly in smokers.

Yes, many times. Relax your leg away from the cramp and it should go away.

Yes, quite often. Some say it is due to lack of salt that has sweated out of your body. It can also be caused by sitting or lying in one position for too long. Walking around should ease it slowly.

Yes!! Usually really early in the morning when I'm still asleep and the pain wakes me up. It then takes ages to get back to sleep, and I can't walk properly when I try.

Lack of salt. Lack of water. You can cure it by getting someone else to gently tickle the muscle. Difficult to do yourself because you are too busy being in agony.
