Don't get me wrong I like rap but I also think it should be banned. If there was less gangstar rap there would be less gun crime. Alot of teenagers think it is cool to carry a gun because they think being a gangstar is cool and that it means peolpe will give them respect. If gangstar rap was banned then maybe youngsters won't keep looking up to ganstar and that way of life.
Who thinks it should be banned?

Well, I don't much care for it myself, and calling it music is a bit of a stretch, but, it isn't the (c)rap that is causing the problems. It's what is going on at home. It's also called communicating with your kids, answering their questions, and teaching them the right things.

Parents who don't give a damn and won't straighten their kids up when they act badly when they are little from the git-go, then wonder why little precious is in jail for stealing or shooting someone later on are the problem. Kids need guidance and discipline as well as love and affection. A big reason they seek out the "gangster" type things, is to get respect, etc, that they aren't getting in other ways.

I would never say it should be banned. I grew up in the 80's, and remember all the to-do with the PMRC, and I, personally, can tell you, banning music makes people seek it out more, just to see what the fuss is about.

As to the gun crime, well, again, there is a responsible way to be a gun owner, and there's a dumba s s way to be a gun owner. Responsible gun owners will teach their kids to respect guns, that they are a tool, not a toy, and will also teach that they have proper uses, just like a tool. You won't try to use a hammer to put screws in, nor a screwdriver to put nails in, same approach.

This is kind of a lengthy answer, and, it was a bit difficult to touch on everything in the question, but, I did my best, and I'll not say it was a dumb question at all, but, a good one. Unfortunately, a lot of the people who really need to hear the answers to this will either not see them, or blow them off, but, if it gets through to one person, and gets them to start being a true parent to their kids, hey, it's a good thing.

I'm not a big rap fan generally, but I don't agree that it should be banned. If it were the only cause of violent crime among children and teenagers, absolutely! But it's not! There are lots of reasons for that type of behavior, not the least of which is a lack of parental guidance for their kids. People let their kids run wild, listening to any music, watching anything on tv, talking any way they want, and behaving however they feel like, which is usually not great. People don't seem to care until their "precious baby" ends up in prison for killing someone and they want to blame everyone else for it. Well, Mom, where the hell were you at 2am when Junior was running around on street corners hanging out with his friends instead of sleeping the whole night through before school?!

People need to take responsibility for their own lives and their own kids, and stop blaming the media and music for all of their problems.

Wow, you contradict yourself; you like it but think it should be banned.

I guess it's not banned for the same reason country, alternative, hard rock, pop isn't banned.

I don't think it should be banned. I like rap but I don't walk around toting a gun thinking it's cool.

It all depends on the parents and the mindset of the individual person. Lots of people, and in corporate places like rap, but they don't tote guns around desiring to be gangsters.

What do I think about Eminem and Paul Wall? They are white rappers. I don't like Enimen's words as he is very violent and talks about murdering his wife and crap. I get your point about that now; Eminem sucks. I do like Paul Wall though but I don't tote a gun around or try to kill anybody like Eminem teaches.

Thanks.

I don't like rap music, but I don't think it should be banned. I think the music is a reflection of what is already going on in society today. Maybe if there weren't gangsters already out there then there wouldn't be any rap music to sing about it. If we banned rap we would have to ban all music.
