According to me?
I really do not know.
And I do not think the earth cares about my opinion.
But well, for a guess? Forever.

5 billion is a good figure. After that the sun will expand in to supergiant and it will be as big as our orbit - its expansion will decrease the gravity though so our orbit will increase - however we'll still be thoroghly cooked by the plasma it throws off. Thats a sort of maximum for the earth.
Given the intelligence of Earth's polititians, their ethics and the current state of the environment? I don't know... 50 years?

I have no personal idea and do not like to speculate of my own authority, but as a Catholic I believe that sometime in the future Christ will return and renew the whole Earth, guess I won`t be here for this event myself.

The Earth spirit is dying, that is the Gaia...
We live in a multi-dimensional Universe, and we have killed this Planet, and now She is purging Herself, hence all the global warming and many other "hick-ups" World-wide for many years..
In 2012 at the end of the Mayan long count calender, we will enter the 5th dimension, and those who are not Spiritually ready for this, will be taken to another Planet where their 3 dimensional needs will be catered for...
Blessed Be... )O(
Edit :- To the clowns who gave me the thumbs down..
I hope you realise that I can substantiate my prophecy's with world-wide acknowledgement ....

Approximately 5 billion. By that time the sun will have supernovaed (I just love using that word as a verb!) and will destroy Earth.

The Earth isn't going anywhere except perhaps up (in ascension). We, however, will be changing.
