There are Christian priests and preachers who convert to islam and likewise muslim teachers who convert to Christianity.
To answer your question, yes they are real and i am the least surprised.
It is not a matter of fairness, it is their personal decisions.
Though on my part I would think those former priests/preacher who become muslims are deceived.

Why wouldn`t people do this when firstly many are terrified of militant Islam which seems to be peaking in these times and secondly look at the supposed rewards of virgins and paradise.
The truth is that Christianity is tough and only the brave live it out, Islam is not a salvific faith and therefore has no `Cross`
No gain = no pain, no cross= no crown.
