Jesus was in the tomb about a day and a half. That's not the Jonah reference. Jonah was a relunctant prophet, so was Jesus. This about as close to humor, as Jesus and the Bible gets.

In Jesus' day, the Jewish people considered any part of a day as a full day when it was included with a period of days.
For instance, a boy may be born a few minutes before the end of the day, so when he is circumcised on the "eighth" day, you couldn't really say eight full 24 hour days have passed yet.
Nowadays, we do something similar, when we say something like, "I was working on the car all day". No one would think that we meant we actually worked for 24 solid hours on the car.

When Jesus spoke about the sign of Jonah, He was referring to His death and Resurrection.

Jonah was inside the fish for 3 days and when Jesus told them they will not see any other miracle or sign, except the the sign of Jonah, He was referring to the three days in which he will be supposedly dead.

The truth of the matter is that as Jonah stayed alive in the fish, Jesus was also alive in death. In death He went to the innermost depth and bruised the devil in struggle to take the keys of death.

Jonah in the belly of the fish is as good as dead, as indicated by his prayer for salvation. Christ in the belly of the ground was also dead. Jonah' salvation is a type of Christ's resurrection.
