Usually only hispanic people do that.

OH YEAH!
The latino community is big on that! Normaly its done at someones house or a park. And yes, there is always BEER & BBQ. While the woman gossip the men BBQ and drink. The kids will play. Sometimes there is games but there will alsway be the cake.
There not that bad. Feel free to give input to your sister. If there is games (for the kids) mostly the mothers are involved but try to make it a family thing. Some fun ideas are the potato sak race or the 3 legged race. Men can join in on this.
Other type of games leave it to women.
When the gifts are to be opened do not ask for the men to join, cause they wont.
Have Fun!

I have been to several but there were set up like an afternoon barbecue. It was a lot of fun. I admit that the guys didn't really get into watching opening of the baby gifts, but they did get a little competitive while playing some of the games.

yup! We have it here. It's alot of fun when the men are involved with games. Especially after the shower, they get to help with the cleanups. When invitations are done, we announce it as a "couples shower" and they will know that men are also invited. We even have showers with kids being there.

No, I highly advise against it. Talk her out of it. If she is lucky the guys will pretend to be indifferent about being there. and that is the BEST case scenario. If she is going to invite guys she better have some good food and/or lots of beer. It could get ugly with mini quiche and finger sandwiches.

I've heard and seen this before. I think it's cool actually. She just should be sure to have activities to keep the guys interested, they don't like all that girly stuff too much.

I've been to a number of baby showers where both men and women were present. They've all been wonderful, and usually involve a lot fewer dumb baby shower games. =) I think it is becoming more and more common these days as men become more and more involved with their children.
