I realize this is a troll kind of question. But, really I`am not trying to stir a debate. As an Atheist, I actually feel sorry for Christians. It hurts my heart that so many people believe and base their lives on these historical lies. The most dangerous lie ever told, is the lie that appeals to people`s self interest. And that is what the God lie does, it appeals to people`s self interest. I also feel bad for them, because they have been brainwashed. Don`t get me wrong Christians are VERY intelligent people. But many of them were relgiously indoctrinated as childern, which I think is unfair.

In all honesty, I respect and feel sorry for them. You?

why do you feel sorry for us? it's not like were going to spend a eternity in Hell?
and if your open minded like you claim, why do you care what I do or do not believe in?
and as a child my family had no religion never went to church in fact they were as far away as you could get from God, I found the Lord on my own, He lives within my heart..
thanks though for your concern and have a great night.

O.k I know I'm not an atheist but I'd still like to answer the question, anyway, when I was about 10-17 I didn't really believe in God & I would say really mean stuff about God then when I was 17-18 I was trying Wicca as a religion and I think it's a nice religion but I tried it for a while and didn't really think it was for me, but I took some good things from it and after that i was undecided. The reason I was really against church is because one time some people made me go to the alter they basically pulled me by the hand to it & I was like 8 years old and for a long time I was really against it. A few months ago I started going to church & I wanted God to be in my life, I'm not saying I'm a Christian because some of them are hypocryites and stuff, but I love God and want to have a good relationship with him and not because of force or being brainwashed. I don't hate anyone who doesn't believe in God or anyone who worships other gods/goddesses, I don't tell people to believe in God because it's a personal decision if they do or not.

"Historically incorrect"? My dear, there are records of almost everything that happens in the Bible in other places as well.

The Bible does not appeal to self interest. If it appealed to self interest, it would mean that we could do anything we wanted to do, have no troubles... however, it tells us that yeah, life is probably gonna suck because there will be people that refuse to believe, people that will shun you, try to murder you for your belief.

I'm only human, I've had times where I've doubted... thought that maybe... just maybe... Those times come and I fall flat on my face. I pray, ask God for guidance, forgiveness, and yeah, people are cruel, rude because of my faith, but on the inside, I know a joy far greater, a love that conquers all! If you could only understand, believe. Yes, it's a sort of blind faith, but when in my life I've experienced so many miracles, well, it's immpossible not to believe. It's impossible to describe it, having this communion with my Creator... Thank you for you concern, but believe you me, you are missing out on the best and worst life has to offer!

Have you ever noticed that when people say religion is stupid/a lie, they generally mean Christianity, rather than Buddhism or Hinduism, etc, where the gods are part animal and generally as corrupt, or more so than humans?

well i'm not an atheist, i'm a non-denominational christian [by my own choice, my parents are evangelical]. i understand the way you feel, and i honestly feel the same way about atheists or anyone of a different religion. i have many good friends who are atheist or agnostic and my best friend is muslim and i don't try to push my religion on them because i think that if i do that it will further push them away. the only thing i've ever tried to do is have a conversation with someone about christianity when they told me they didn't know what to believe. i don't judge people by their religion, as long as someone isn't rude about someone elses beliefs then everything is good.

i think it's natural to feel sorry for someone if they don't believe the same thing you are passionate about and truly believe to be the truth, which i'm sure is why you feel like that and why a small part of me feels bad for those that don't believe in God.

I don't have a problem with christians per se as I'm married to one and my whole family is christian so long as they aren't the types to want to constantly convert people. My family are normal people - not uptight, liberal and christian. They don't try to change me or my beliefs but accept me as I am.

We all walk the paths that are either natural to us or that we become ready for and pushing people from any side does nothing but make the one doing the pushing look like a jerk. I find it very judgmental for anyone to feel sorry for anyone. I'm a live and let live sort of person but then I do come from an area of America where even most of the christians are liberal.

I view Christians as I view everyone else. There are many who are completely misinformed and ignorant about what goes on in the world. They outsource their thinking to preachers and TV news. They don't think for themselves.

However there are also the scholars, the ones who do think for themselves and are very intelligent. Although a bit misguided, they are otherwise rational people.

Remember, I'm talking about all faiths, not just Christians. I think there are atheists just as ignorant, and just as fool hearted as some Christians but I would argue that there are a much smaller percentage of them.

Anyone that has been taught, brainwashed, or scared into believing that you will burn in Hell for eternity if you don't believe in a man named Jesus is just wrong. These people are believers simply out fear of the repercussions of what will happen to them if they Don't believe. The bible and Christians contradict their description of God/Jesus. Some say he is a loving God and full of love and light. Others and the bible describe God as having a bad temper that punishes in a blink of an eye. I believe many Christians are just scared to 'not' believe in God and are afraid to question the validity of God and Jesus.

I appreciate your graciousness in the way you wrote your letter. As a Christian, all I can say is through my belief in God, my life has been changed in so many wonderful ways. I don't believe out of fear, I believe from his presence in my life, personally.

There's a little statement, If I believe in heaven and I'm wrong, I have lost nothing. But if I do not believe in God and I am wrong, I have lost everything.

I do respect your opinions, and thank you for the very kind and decent way you worded them.

Sorry, but I have to disagree with you. I am an Athiest, but I think that anybody can believe anything they want as long as they don't force it on me. I don't believe that Christians have been brainwashed and in most cases it isn't unfair that they are indoctrined as children, becuase as adults they can make the decision to not be religious. Feeling sorry for them for such a reason does nothing but belittle their beliefs.

i was right there with ya until the intelligent part... i feel sorry for christians until they start thinking they are higher on the food chain than anyone who picks up a non-fiction book to get educated. we live in a mortal world that cannot be denied and to live a mortal life presuming immortal faucets is not reasonable in any way, shape or form. There may be a god and we or some of us may see this god after our death but until then we still need to pay our taxes and take care of our mortal needs like food and clothing and shelter

I wouldn't really call myself an atheist but i'm not a Christian.
I feel that Christians follow a blind faith. I was watch some wacko on a Christian T.V. channel the other day and he was trying to disprove evolution. If anything he made it clearer to me that the Christian God does not exist. Look at the facts people!!
