I absolutely LOVE science fiction. Have been a huge fan since I picked "Stranger in a Strange Land" off my brother's bookshelf when I was 14 years old. That was also the year that Star Trek started, and I was addicted from the first. (Sure are glad they decided to change their first casts around some before releasing it!)
I have been reading a LOT of science fiction in the over 40 years since. The funny thing is, I have never read Hitchhiker's. Any of them. Or War of the Worlds (although I loved the movie). Ditto for Body Snatchers. I too loved to watch all the kitschy alien movies of the 50s and 60s if only for the groan factor.
But the rule is that if I like the movie, I will usually hate the book or vice versa.
I absolutely LOVE Anne McCaffrey's Pern (dragon) series. I got addicted to that when I picked up a couple in the series at a secondhand book store, and then I just HAD TO get all of the rest of them. That was 20 years ago now, and I have passed the addiction on to my daughters. I have heard a couple of times since then that the BBC is supposed to be doing a weekly series based on the Pern books, but have never seen hide not hair of them in North America (and I am not sure I want to at this point).
I love the Dune shows...especially the one with Sting as the bad guy. Hate the Dune books.
Love all the Star Trek series and movies. REFUSE to read the books.
Absolutely LOVE everything David Weber produces about galaxy spanning space wars. (Where DOES he come up with all the specs for these spaceships, anyway?)
Love Andre Norton's Witchworld books.
Mercedes Lackey's fantasy worlds are also a must.
Everything turned out by C.J. Cherryh, including her retakes on ancient legends.
Just so many actually that it is hard to remember them all.

I still tivo the old Twilight Zones. Soylent Green and Logans Run, The Original Body Snatchers also cannot resist checking a newer version everytime they make one. Dune books were more intriguing for me than the movies. Michael Rennie in The Day the Earth Stood Still, (which has recently been discussed).
Detest L. Ron Hubbards stuff!

I used to enjoy the Twilight Zone, Outer LImits , The Night Stalker and enjoyed watching the series "V" with my daughter. Our fav character was Willie ,who evolved into "Freddy Krugger!" It almost broke my heart. I loved the first Gremlins Movie, Planet of the Apes ,and The movie Alien almost scared the crap out of me . I loved the series Aliens which was about "newcomers" from space. The series Roswell was a" must see" for me .I still miss it. Lately I enjoy Ghost Whisperer and Medium although not really sci- fi. Almost forgot I loved the movie Cocoon!

I also like Dr Who, but i like David Tennant (the new one). I used to watch and enjoy "Outer Limits", the films "Village of the Damned" and the sequels, "Twilight Zone". I saw a scary movie once when I was very young where aliens landed and used to get people and inject them in the back of the neck, and then you were kind of like a zombie. The aliens were underground and parents used to take their children down to get their injection. I watched my parents for months after that to see if they had any marks on their necks. I still remember it, so it must have had a lasting effect. My mother used to take me to see some of the scariest of movies, even one where you had to wear 3D glasses to see all the scary bits. (fortunately I didn't get to wear the glasses).
