God found favor in Mary so I feel she deserves our respect, being that she was chosen to carry the Savior in her womb, but she is not equal to Christ.

There are many other faiths (denominations) besides Catholicism.

Apparently, in the Middle East, in the area that Mohamed (saws) grew up there was a large denomination that saw Mary as part of the Trinity. Even in more general Christian views she is sometimes associated with the holy spirit.
Muslims do respect the idea that Mary was a virgin but that Jesus was not god.

Interesting question.
I'm not protestant, I'm Gnostic which makes me what Catholics call a Heretic and the Gnostic faiths predate the Catholics because Gnostics began a couple hundred years before Jesus was born.

Gnostics (the worlds oldest form of Christianity) says that Mary was the mother of Jesus and just a good Jewish woman. Gnostics of my flavor (there are several kinds) further believe that Jesus was just a man who achieved enlightenment by love. The Christ he identified with is in each of us and by that definition as children of God we are all God every bit as much as Jesus. The only thing required to understand it all is love and the will of the Father. No one experiences spiritual birth unless the Father calls them. There's nothing anyone can do to make it happen nor prevent it from happening. The Father is within each of us. To desire enlightenment is something we develop ourselves within us, therefor it is of the father because you and the Father are one. That's why judgment hurts you so much, by judging others you withhold love from them, the entire world is a reflection of God within you, what you hate in the world you hate in you and this is what prevents us from true unity with the Father.

Love one another as I have loved you.

I think it depends on what church you ask. I am not Catholic. I look at Mary as a servant of God. She, like many other people then and today, was used by God to perform his purposes. I don't think she was sinless or more special than anyone else that God used. She bore the Christ, but I don't think that she should be prayed to or placed upon a high point. She is merely human--just as I am.

In the New Testament the focus is not on Mary. The MOST important thing is Jesus Christ, not Mary.

She's blessed to be the mother of God, was a strong supporter of her son, but she isn't a figure head like she is in Catholicism. She is simply the woman that gave birth to the fleshly representation of God.

She is blessed amongst women, and was a virgin who gave birth to Jesus. She was probably a good person to know, but she is not as the Roman Catholics say, " Mediatrix".

She was not sinless, and needed grace from God like anyone else in the human race.

She is an extension of Isis, particularly as the mother of god.
Her titles of Queen of Heaven & Star of the Sea & Mother Of God are all Titles belonging to Isis.

She is held in high esteem in Islam, with many mosques bearing her name, but I believe protestants aren't into the whole Marian thing, particularly the veneration of saints, icons and imagery.

In some catholic communities she is held in higher esteem than any other figure in christianity.

She was a young virgin chosen by God to carry his son. We do not believe she has any power because of Gods choice, therefore we hold her in respect, but do not pray to her.

And as Christians, we believed that all who have accepted Christ as Savior are Saints of God.
