over by the underpass
under the overlook
is a city called "detroit"
it rains there often
and sometimes
the lake effect snow glistens
against the smog
but in a nice way
i never want to work again
i don't want to make
cars
but
i want to
have
a
place
to
call
"home"
God, you never answer
but , just this once
Let me be from Detroit?

Y'know, somehow you even sound eloquent here. What can I say Eight-Track? You can take the man out of the poet...

Through the impenetrable traffic
Inching down the Belt Parkway
Up and over the Verazzano
Statue of Liberty staring mutely
On the smog-swallowed horizon
Across Staten Island, the
Land of the free, homey
Come the smokestacks
Lined
Up
One
By
One
And the smell of nuclear waste in the air
God, just this once,
Why can't I be from Jersey?

It really sounds like you want to go home, Dearest. It's a very heartfelt poem.

I like the part where you wish to be able to reply when asked "yeah mate, no wuckers! ... I'm from Detroit" and I like it even more cause some people didn't get it!

I like it. Its simple, to the point. I get a clear image of the mood you are trying for. Nice. Any more?
