I've been keeping track of my credit through freecreditreport.com for over a year now. It's climbed I think 10 points in that time. My score is 657 on experian currently. At what number will my rating cross over into "good"?

I would say 680 would be a good mark. However if you're above 700 that's when you start getting auto approval for everything.

You really want to shoot for 700. If you have any debt pay it all off as soon as you can. Do not apply for credit unless you absolutely have to. Applying for credit reduces your score. And make sure everything in your credit file is accurate. If not call the credit people and have it corrected.

Hope that Helps.

You don't really know what your credit is because the FICO score, which is the one people really care about, isn't the same as the ones on Experian. So I wouldn't take that as gospel. To improve your score more, you'll have to really study up on it. I think the best suggestion I heard was to make your payment immediately rather than waiting until the closing date. I'd never heard of that before, but the people I know with high scores all seem to pay their bills as soon as it comes in. Personally, I pay mine by computer online, so it goes through immediately. I think that makes a difference.

I am not sure of the number to get you from fair to good but in a years time your points should go up more than 10 points. If you have anything negative on your profile you can dispute it and 95% of the time it will be deleated after an investigation.
