Because the person who create this story wanted to scare you into being a Christian.

I, too am curious where you get this idea. I find that many evangelicals make hell a lot more vibrant than heaven in attempts to scare people but in the christian scriptures I don't think it is more specifically described than heaven. In part I believe that because I don't believe in heaven or hell and believe that the writers were talking about things that were going on in their own time, not the future, like many think.

When and where is hell described better than heaven? I sure would never want to experience hell according the way the bible describes it!!! A place of fire, damnation and torment forever right along with the devil and his demons, and away from God's presence forever! Jesus said, when he was here on earth, he came to destroy the works of the devil. Jesus isn't there and neither is the Father, and I'm not going either... The bible says, God's prepared hell for the devil and his demons.

Hmmm... hell where you abide in endless guilt and shame, or heaven where you abide in eternal peace, joy and love. Boy that is a tough decision!

I really wonder where some of these posters get their ideas from... certainly not from the Bible!

Isa. 5: 20 Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!

Another misconception, heaven is a boring place where we polish brass knobs and strum harps (from Bugs Bunny cartoons). From what limited experiences I have had with the Holy Spirit, I can not think of a more thrilling and exciting place to be! Boredom will be a long forgotten memory of the past life. I am unable to convey the beauty and indescribable love that will exist in heaven, the English language does not have the words.

Revelation 21 and 22 describe heaven pretty well - probably better than hell is described. More detail anyway.....

because the world lives and believes in darkness, it's easier to remain complacent. Therefore, it's easier to believe where one is going than to believe in what one can't see physically, but know it within their heart and soul that there is a loving God and a place for eternity with him if we choose to believe. However, if one is convinced there is a hell then that's where their soul believes it's headed to. If one believes there is a loving God and heaven then it's the same thing. Heaven or hell, what side of the fence does your soul say it's going to?

Because people are fascinated by trauma.

Many fundamentalist claim to be Christian for the same reason horror movies are popular.

Hell is so easily understood as metaphor in scripture. It take the morbidity of humanity to cherish and extrapolate and obsess on the concept. That explains the nature of mankind in his natural state. To be saved you have to be born of spirit by unconditional love. A saved individual can't believe in a literal hell, only the damned can believe this because only the damned know so little of the love of God.

Many people think that Hell is going to be a non stop party and in Heaven there is nothing to do but pluck the strings of a harp and stand around on a cloud. I disagree with both theories.

Because Hell is simple : in Christianity it is simple fire. In Islam, it's dark and as hot and with the same burning sensation as if there was fire.

Heaven is more complicated and the rewards are plenty so it is not as simple to describe and lazy as we are we all go for the simple option.
