When I couldn't keep food down and was losing weight very quickly, my doctor sent me for blood tests which revealed I had a major vitamin B.12 deficiency, so I had to have a course of shots also. A defiency of B.12, amongst other things, causes anemia, perhaps your doctor could see evident signs of it. Didn't you ask why you had to have the shots? Surely, that should have been the first thing you done. You must have had something wrong to have gone to your doctor in the first place, and, on explaining or describing your symptoms etc., maybe it was crystal clear to them what the problem was, so, you got the shots. Doesn't sound to good to me though, if they didn't get a blood test done for you first though.

I don't know how or why, but evidently this deficiency can be brought on by nerves, anxiety and depression, as further medical tests to ascertain why I had it, revealed. You know your own medical history so, if any of this sounds familiar, there you go, hope it may have helped. If not, go back to your doctor and ask what they considered was wrong with you that necessitated you needing the shots.

Hope you feel well soon.

B-12 shots are given for willy nilly reasons alot. The fact is that if you don't have a B-12 deficiency, it's not doing you any good. You'll just excrete the extra B-12. If you have an intestinal disorder like Crohn's disease, or have had some small intestine removed, you're likely to have b-12 deficiency. Otherwise, it's pretty unusual.
Some people give it for neuropathy, but B-12 deficiency is an uncommon cause of neuropathy. If you don't know what that is, you don't have it, most likely.

They also are used for a chronic condition like a flu that one can't get rid of. I have had them twice. They do help without a doubt. Make sure they give it to you in the hip or butt. It is like getting socked you don't want it in your arm. The needle is bigger. It is quick though.
Anything in the blood stream works better. There is also a kind one can put under the tongue.

They are to boost your B-12. That's all. It was probably low on your blood test. Don't freak out, it's just a vitamin boost. Your doctor will let you know what is going on when you go in for your appointment. Maybe you are slightly anemic? Don't worry too much.~
