hey everyone..
i just got my tattoo tonight on my birthday..wow what an experience.. i totally enjoyed it, but the pain lol. it was so bad that i left my hand imprints in my friends hand. Well I just got home and she gave me all this aftercare stuff and told me to leave the saran wrap on for 2-3 hours, then take off and clean with warm water and mild soap. She said not to apply neosporin or a+d ointment or anything like that just LUBRIDERM lotion.. Is this correct? I got the tat on top of my left foot. What else should I be doing or not doing?? THANKS!!

you can check out my tattoo out on my myspace...www.myspace.com/jenijenjeni

is it supposed to burn and bleed a bit?

Wow. I can't believe a tattoo artist actually gave someone the right advice!!

Yes, use unscented Lubriderm, or something like it. Don't use ointments, or Vaseline, and don't use things like Polysporin/Neosporin.

Don't submerge your tattoo in water for at least 6-8 weeks, and don't expose it to direct sunlight/UV rays - even after it's healed. Use sunscreen.

I'm glad to hear your first tattoo experience was a great one. When are you getting your next? Hahaha, I know you will be - there are very few people I know who have only 1 tattoo. They're so addictive!

PS - Happy belated birthday!!

Bleeding is normal and lubriderm lotion is the best kind, cuz it doesn't have any dyes or perfumes that is what I used. Keep the bandage on for a while and then you can let it breathe, Make sure it is covered in the shower do not scrub, itch or scratch the tattoo. when it starts to get itchy that means it is healing that is when you need to put the lotion on it to keep it from drying out too bad and scabbing is normal. DO NOT PICK SCAB. This can damage the tattoo. Also if it gets too dry it can crack and possibly disfigure the tattoo. So keep it covered and don't let it get too day. Good luck!!!

The lotion should be fine so long as there are no perfumes or fragrances in it, read the label carefully. Perfumes will irritate your skin. Make sure your soap doesn't contain any, either. I used Lubriderm myself, with Dial anti-bacterial soap. I have also been told by my artists not to use A&D or Neosporin, but every artist is different. Your next one may tell you otherwise.

No shoes or socks until it's healed. No itching. Clean it often, and moisturize even more so. Enjoy it.

does ur friend have any tats I have a few and i always used the A n D ointment and they are still looking good and I have had them for years. as far as the mild sopa and water never did that. I just kept the bandage on and took them off when they said after a few hours and thats that. It got washed the next day when I showered thats all.

Now: Don't itch it or pick at it (any scabs from ink rejection) Don't swim in the lake, ocean or pools. fresh, clean water only (ie: shower's and baths only). Make sure the lotion is not scented, just plain and simple, nothing fancy.

Future: Go in for a touch up, if needed. Usually included in the process as long as done in a period of time, like 6 months after date of tattoo.
Keep it protected from the sun. Apply and reapply sunscreen when barefoot outside. It will help it from fading and changing sooner because of sun damage.

DO NOT WEAR SHOES OR SOCKS!!! for two weeks you should only wear flip flops so your tattoo will heal properly. if you don't there is a chance of it not healing right and it won't look good.
keep your foot elevated as much as possible for the first couple of days to reduce swelling.
