I am getting an ear piercing tomorrow, earlier i was planning to get a gun but now i am worried about the gun , i mean what if the gun is not sterilised and I get infected (HIV or something). Should I get a piercing thru needle instead? Would that be safer?

Needle is safer.

You're right, piercing guns can NOT be sterilized. In order to sterilize something, you need to have an autoclave, and the plastic that piercing guns are made of would melt inside one. So they just use alcohol wipes.

But things like HIV and Hepetitis will survive through an alcohol wipe just fine. Which is why autoclaves are so important.

Piercers use autoclaves on EVERYTHING that touches you, and they throw away the needle after a single use.

Also, the jewelry that piercers use is better quality (which leads to better healing), and piercing needles do less damage to your skin than a blunt piercing stud being shoved through with force.

Going to a professional piercer is ALWAYS a better option.

Hands Down Needle is the best

Granted when i got my lobes done with a gun it was sterile because it was a one time use gun and came shrink wrapped in plastic and everything. But Honestly After have needles and earrings shoved through my body (Piercing gun uses the earrings for the sharp point) Needles are FAR LESS painful then having either and earing shoved through your lobe with a gun, or a stud shoved through your nose by a piercer's hand. ALWAYS ALWAYS Needles First then the Jewelry.

I always preferred the needle because I know 100% it is clean and I trust my piercer more than I could ever trust some random girl at the mall. I think it's safe to get your ear lobes done with a gun. I'm pretty sure you won't get HIV. Just don't get anything else pierced with a gun.

You wont get HIV(blood born disease and even claires wears gloves) from a gun but you could get a nasty infection and have it never heal right. Always always always have a hollow needle used by a professional. Any professional that uses a gun is being lazy. Claires is not trained to put holes in the body ... so why would you trust them? Needle always, it is safer, half the healing time and far less likely to have an infection from the act of getting it pierced.

The needle is better for the following reasons:

- there is no way to properly sterilize a piercing gun
- if you get pierced with a gun in the cartilage, it can shatter your cartilage
- the instant shock to your body can cause you to pass out or go into shock
- most people who pierce with a gun had to watch a 20-minute training video, vs. a professional body piercer with at least one-year of apprenticeship training (if you go to a reputable shop)

Go for the needle. Good luck!

for earlobes guns are fine you are not going to get anything from the gun the only thing going in to your ear is the earring, they use piercing studs, there a pointed and sharp. but earlobes are the only thing a gun should be used on, no body mod's with a gun.

NEEDLE NEEDLE NEEDLE

the places which perform piercing with needles are usually more sterile, have proffesional training and really know their stuff. The average idiot at the parmacy can pierce someone with a gun.

Put yourself in the best hands.

Needle is by far safer.
There is absolutely nothing safe about getting pierced with a gun.

Well, if the gun isn't sterilized then you could get an infection (most piercings get infected anyway) but if the needle isn't sterilized then the same thing can occur. I don't understand your logic. No offense.

I think for ears you're better off with the gun, but for something like your nose, use a needle. It hurts less.

Oh, and HIV should probably be the last thing on your mind when getting your ears pierced. Unless you're getting pierced at a really sketchy kinda place, then I don't recommend it.

needle will have a much easier and cleaner healing process. guns tear through the skin instead of removing and get infected much easier.
