M249 SAW or Humvee mounted M240

Well the MP5,M16A2,M16A4,and M-4 are all assault rifles so those answers are wrong. (sorry guys) The Squad Automatic Weapon, or SAW is a "light" Machine gun and is used a lot by the Marine Corp and Army. However, I would say that the "most standard used would have to the 240G, or 240B, these two are both Medium Machine Guns, and can be found on many vehicles, used in FOB perimeters and carried by good old Marine Corp 0331s (Machine Gunners). The M2 50 cal. (Heavy Machine gun) would be a close second.

M16A2/A4 and M4 are the assult rifles, not machine guns though.
M249 Squad Automatic Weapon would be the most common machine gun with 1-2 per squad/section.
M240B and varients would be next at the platoon level (about 3 per platoon) and on each armored vehicle for the coax gun.
M2 .50cal would be next, being on each tank and a lot of wheeled vehicles.

I would say it's the M-4A1. Although this is technically an assault rifle, I think that many people consider it a machine gun.
