There has been a rise in police violence in the Western World particularly in USA.
Maybe it is due to academies accepting more gung ho applicants.

Sane, rational and logical replies only thanks

Fewer and Fewer people understand public service and with that you get these type of people. Most officers do not follow law these days. They prefer the Police State style of my word is law. Unfortunately more and more states are passing laws that support this behavior. Perfect example is traffic court. In Most states the only thing the state has to prove is Preponderance of the evidence. Which means the state doesn't have to prove that you were doing 75 in a 55 only that you were speeding and since the states witness (the officer) says he wrote the ticket. That is enough evidence to convict you of the traffic offense. Your testimony don't mean crap in these jack rabbit courts. Nearly all states will fire an officer if he neglects his duty of meeting his ticket quota repeatedly.
I drive a CMV for a living and over the past 9 years. I've personally seen officers nearly cause an accident. Then obviously in an act of road rage pull over the unsuspecting operator and give them a ticket.
Some people would like to postulate the idea that only a few officers are guilty of rage and unprofessional behavior. When anyone who pays attention knows better. Go search for books written by previous officers. You will find many that are about the disgrace of the modern police force and the court system.
Not to mention how the city of Chicago. Has recently fought to keep secrete the list of officers that have had multiple valid complaints against them. The list contained well over 100 officers.
I grew up in a small town. With less than 100 kids in my high school. Out of that group of kids there were about 10. who were total bully's and was always had their noses in someone Else's business. Three of them became police officers.

How far in the past ? Also, they will ask questions with friends and family members about you. Of course I would give um a heads up on it, cause if you have no record , don't worry about it The PD recognize this about people, and they will work with you as long as you are honest and always do the RIGHT thing. You will take a written test, physical agility test, and an oral test. The oral test is when you answer Q's from one high ranking officer, and a City Official. It will be taped and you will be scored on ur answers. The higher the score..the better. Just ask your friends and family to not make you look like you'd be a good candidate. And DON'T tell every single bad thing you've done, that won't fly. I would admit to smoking a little weed( when I was younger) or drinking at a party ( no driving), The small stuff is ok. They will ask if you've ever taken opiates, mushrooms, hash, acid, etc. That answer better be NO WAY!! So, really just be a good cop, should you go that route. Stick to your morals. The cops who lie for each other....eventually get dismissed. So, keep your .... Reputation clean.

you made a very wide blanket statement.where are the examples or facts to back your suspicion up? i do not see anything other than just a worthless statement from one person and he can not even back it up.
police are seriously screened in their backgrounds. they go thru numerous testings that are psychological.i di admit we are having too many officers screwing up these days. it is getting harder and harder to find qualified applicants.all across the country they have had to lower hiring standards to get people that qualify.people being hired now would not have been hired in the past.those numbers are very few but when one screws up the entire department is blamed.the job is getting harder and harder to do. it is a very complicated job.you work under the constant threat of your life every second on the job.criminals are getting smarter also.the laws have changed so much towards protecting the criminals rights while not doing anything for the victims.one of the worst laws deals with assault.there used to be very few assaults on the officers/the law changed to where if you assault a officer it is no more than anyone else.this has cause a tremendous amounts of assaults and deaths.

Why do you want only sane, rational and logical replies to a question that is so obviously not rational to begin with. Obviously you have never been in other countries, such as Japan, or Turkey. I do know about those 2 because I have been in both. In both countries you are considered guilty until proven Innocent. The tactics used in both countries make American abuses pale in comparison. Here, you can talk back, and yell at the police, and probably get away with it. There, it's a good way to get yourself beaten to a bloody pulp, and nothing will be said about it.
What you hear in the news is only a tiny portion of the complete sum of offenders versus the police. Those who break the law and refuse to comply with the orders of the police leave themselves open to possibly getting hurt. Most police officers are caring professionals who do their duty to protect the citizens and are polite in their dealings with them. There have been a good many brutal officers who will never have another police job because they were just that, brutal. I think you need to know a lot more of what you wish to question before making any statement, or posing a question. Listening to the news, or hear say makes you look like a f**l, which apparently you are.

Well, anyone can apply to be a police officer. It is not like you have to be particularly smart or athletic, you just need a GED and no felonies probably. Maybe no misdimeanors either, but you understand what I am saying. The smartest and best people who would make good cops go on to do other things.

This is based on what? All professions have jerks that like to abuse their power what's your point. If your so convinced of your position why haven't you given examples or posted any links to support your position?

Yes, some departments have officers that abuse their power and bring discredit to the profession as a whole;however, many officers put their life on the line on a daily basis to make their communities a better place to live.

There is more to the job than writing traffic tickets and breaking up parties. The police also arrest child molesters, rapists, drug dealers and low-life's that like to beat up their wives or girlfriends.

Just out of curiosity, what do you stand for, what have you put your life on the line for. Instead of being so negative, try being open minded and do a ride along.

Academies must screen the applicants so that no scalawags will trained to enter the police ranks and perpetrate crimes in the community.

No the jerks usually post troll questions on Y! Answers.

It's not easy providing a sane, rational, and logical answer to a question that lacks those same qualities.

just not true.

Most people who serve in law enforcement are there to make the place they live a better place. It is a select few who are there for the power, but with the media today you only hear about the one's who are bad.

Do you know how many times a day police officer's save someone's life. It happens many times a day through out the country but you wont see that on the national news. Just the ones who do something wrong. If they do show a cop who saves a life it is on for one day. If a cop does something illegal they will still be having half hour nanct grace specials about it 2 months later.

Violence in police departments has went down. With the use of new non leathal tools for them to use it has only got better.

It's a shame you lump all the people sho go out there every day and do their job in with the few who do their job wrong. I wonder how you would feel if we did that with the field you work in.
