I'm not going to sit here and tell you that being overweight is fine. The truth is that if it were fine they wouldn't call it overweight. You really need to change your whole life style to lose weight. I'm in good shape but i have been a few pounds overweight in the past. The best way i found to eat right was going to the store and buying tons of those frozen dinners that are low in fat. 'cause let's face it, no one wants to cook when they're on the run and this when we're tempted to buy McDonald's. First thing you need to know is that the first step to losing weight is all about you. No one or nothing can help you take that first step to exercise or start eating well. But once you do take that step and you can look back and say "i have eaten healthy for 3 days" or " i have worked out three times this week" you will feel so good about yourself that your motivation will sky rocket and it will make you want to continue. I'll tell you something else: there is no better feeling in the world than when you step on that scale and see that you've lost weight or when a random coworker says "you've lost weight, you look good." Aside from out mental health and happiness the second most important thing in our life is our body. Good luck!

sheeit thats big
but you have to start cutting down the small things like condoments, juice, 2% milk etc.
you should strictly drink a lot of water an skim milks, plain teas etc.
then instead of snacking on high fat foods, you should snack on unsalted, unroasted nuts an dried berries, almonds and peanuts, and pecans prefferably.
then eat a lot of berries i.e. rasberries and blueberries which actually help fight against obeisidy
make breakfast your largest meal of the day, so you do not eat as much during the day
eat a lot of fruits bananas apples, pears especially
an then for lunches make yourself a salad using olive oil balsamic vinegar and some salt (its tastes pretty good) and add some chicken to it or watever
then you must by high protien lean lean lean meats - skinless chicken, pork tenderloin, and low fat flank steaks.
But the the best meat by far is fish - salmon, talapia, trout etc
eat flax or whole grain toast bread
turkey / chicken cold cuts
basically anythin low in saturated fats
and visit the gym at least twice a week using light weights
most importantly drink lots of water an snack on pure nuts
youll notice a difference in a few weeks trust me
it worked for me

I would get a personal trainer. All it takes is one hour. I was finding it hard to lose weight, I started taking a boxing class and the pounds are dropping off. I think it's all about motivation from a teacher and the people in the class. I think "self-help" can only motivate you so much, you need other people helping you solve your issues.
