Ever notice how lead poisoning has gone down since they took "God" out of the schools? Now do yourself a favor and google Charles Whitman and Brenda Ann Spencer.
Wow- another brilliant false correlation.

You are wrong, they do still say the pledge. According to my wife, who is a teacher, they are even more strict now about *forcing* the kids to say it than they were when I was in school.
And yes there were school killings back then, just like there are now. The difference is that back then such things didn't make such huge headlines in the news.
It is a simple fact that every year millions of children go to school and a scant few dozen of them commit deadly violence against each other. This is nothing new. It goes all the way back to the beginning of public schools. The only difference is how much air time it gets in the news now.

I graduated in 1980 and the pledge was not recited then. As for the schools then compared to now, I don't remember any killings at the high-school I went to, but there was alot of violence. It seemed every week there were at least several kids going to the hospital for stitches or other injuries.
I know it may not suit you for me to say this, but violence in schools was present whether the pledge was said or not. I know in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania schools, violence was the norm right after the pledge was said. Every morning right on time.

I am a public High School teacher. We say the pledge every day, my 9th graders are great, they stand and recite it.
The pledge is not the big problem, the outside world gets brought into school. What do the kids see glorified and modeled? Solid, hard working people? Not nearly enough. Rappers, actors lost in their indulgences, - a change of social emphasis, values and education are what will change violence and many social problems.

That's a loaded question.
There was also a lot less drugs in school. There were no video games taking up every free moment of kids' time. We played outside and socialized so that we were outgoing and not interverted.
I never talked about God at home or in school. None of my friends did either. We didn't have the killings going on then.

40 years old here.I remember video games in 1980 on.Our money has said " In God we trust" since the 1930's but ppl kill over plastic too.
Don't know about this 1951 thing on adding it too pledge but my 4 children say it in school. They have friends that don't believe and no killings by any here.I will say however that after
9-11 when dr pepper placed One Nation under ...indevisable with liberty, justice for All,That as a Christain and my house bying dr pepper stopped and has cost them 7,000 plus because they think we are under ... and not God.
As a Christain I believe in freedom of speach for all but don't play that ... game, cause pac man eat it up.

Yes we said the pledge and prayed when I was in school. No my children have not been given this oppurtunity in school. It is sad! Just goes to show you this is another sign of the times. And why we must pary even harder against the devil. So we must make sure to teach our children this in our homes and church. It just makes you sorry for the children who didn't get these lessons at home, but they used to be able to get them at school. Things are bound to get even worse, I just can't imagine the horrors of what will come. Pray for our children every day, pray for the lost, PRAY PRAY PRAY! It really does make a difference!

I'm a teacher and we say the pledge every morning. The school's job is to educate children and make them ready to live and work in society. Religion should be in the home. I don't want a teacher standing up in front of my child and teaching her their religion. I will do that because it's my job as a parent.

Yeah, how about back in 1951, before they added the words "under god" to the pledge and there were even less problems? I think it was all those years of god's influence that have culminated in those tragic school shootings. I mean, look at god's track record as laid out in the old testament. Ordering killings of children left and right.
