In the space of 6 months, in 1998, I lost two of my cousins, almost my sister (she barely recovered), my cat, and my uncle. My mom died in 2003.
Then, in 2004, I nearly died myself. I was hit by a car, unconscious in the hospital for a week, in the hospital for another month and a half. It took me 3 months before I could use an old lady walker to walk, 6 months with the walker, 3 months with a cane.
You know what I saw? Nothing. There is no heaven or hell. You can't come much closer to death than I was without actually dying.
It has a way of bringing death right into your face.
I had alot of oppurtunity to think about it.
You know what? You're never going to know what happens after you die because you're not dead.
Don't go for religion because why devote yourself to something that you don't know is true just because its comfortable?
Think about it. Think about what you do know. You have this life. You don't know if you're going to have another. So live your life. Don't live it terrified of death because death comes to us all eventually, only the way we die changes.
You need to learn to accept it. And that you need to love your life. Cherish your family, love the blue sky, take the time to smell the roses.
But live your life. Life is for living. Don't let fear control you.
I've come to simply accept death. I'm not even afraid of it anymore. You will too.
Life has new meaning now. The rain feels so good because its the rain. The taste of strawberries is simply... well to put it a rather ridiculous way... heavenly (even though heaven doesn't exist). The scent of my husbands aftershave is wonderful and it reminds me of him. The sound of my nephews laughter means more than anything in the world. And a beautiful sunset makes a bad day worth it.
LIVE. Just live. Live for today, not tomorrow.
There's a certain peace that comes with accepting death... and accepting life.
You don't need a god to find it.

The Holy Bible has all the answers to the questions you have asked here. Get yourself a New Living Translation of the Holy Bible which is written in plain modern English. Have you looked at the universe lately do you have any inkling on the real size of it? We will not be in heaven, we will live on the new earth. We will live with God and there will be far better things than football there.
You will live forever after death. Read the bible and find out how to spend your eternity with God.

You are awesome.
Sorry for your loss, I lost my Dad suddenly in 2001 and it is a numbing loss.
What brought me through was that I had settled my life in faith. I was going through a divorce from a 21 year marriage with 4 kids when he died.
Life after death is not like this life. We will be free from the bonds of sin which means we will not even be able to think of sorrow, or tragedy, or troubles. God's glory is perfect and wonderful it will fill us. It will be perfect glory and the fillinmg of your heart and spirit. But the truth is only those who accept Christ as Savior will know him, and know his eternal life.
Have you read "The Purpose Driven-Life" by Rick Warren? It is an amazing book that clearly explains these things. 20 million copies sold. Clear, understandable language too.
I would recommend it where you are... you will find what you are looking for.

The problem with death is the fact that we think of it as something that stops us from ever meeting this person again but they live on for ever in our minds and i know that this sounds lame but its true, My best friend died and it was awful but i still remember all the stupid things we did and it makes me laugh and cry and i love her still. I will always remember for as long as i live. Im sorry it happened man, my heart goes out, but dude everything happens for a reason. not in the god sense but in the world will even it self out kind of way.

My condolences on your fathers passing. Your feelings are normal right now. You are still grieving. Be assured, that you will be able to be with your loved ones when you die. Families are eternal and can be together forever as long as we live our lives the way Christ has taught us too.

There's a spiritual yearning for "more" than the world around us. It's very real. I suggest you get a Bible and read the book of John.

Don't deal with death but deal with life. If you are born again, then you know that Jesus conquered death.
