I served on a superior court civil jury trial last year, for most of october.

I just got summoned for jury duty for a criminal trial. I thought if you served on a superior court trial, you had two years before you were called again? But no, they denied my request for deferral.

Should I say one of my good pals is the chief of police (true)? Or just go and see what happens?? I'm in California, btw. What's the law? maybe someone at the court is mistaken.

If you want to get out of jury duty, just mention that you know about jury nullification. Jurors have the right to judge the law as well as the evidence, and to find the defendant not guilty even if he broke the law. (See: http://www.fija.org/ .)

This is a protection against unjust laws.

Judge's don't tend to like prospective jurors who know this.

I thought it was one year in CA. Look closely at your jury summons: there is probably a box you can check to get excluded if it has been less than one year since you last served.

From what I remember about jury selection (this was in 2005 so my memory isn't great) they might ask if you know anyone in the police, and if so, will it affect your ability to be impartial.
