Hang around alot of kiwi's and/or live there.

Easier to pick up an accent if you are a child. Once you are an adult you are generally stuck with whatever (accent)country you were bought up in.

wow, sebcue has a massive chip on his shoulder. it sounds like he got a real bad deal when he was staying in new zealand, i don't think he developed a kiwi accent though.

kiwi have more neutral sounds than other countries. we speak quite lazily and can speak fast because of it. the accent does vary from place to place. people from gore can sound very american/candian, michael j fox said to speak like a kiwi, just add alot of o's to your sentence:)

Alternatively you could live in Bondi for a couple of months and have the Royal on Bondi rd as your watering hole. You pick up the kiwi accent no worries.

Why would you want to?! So people can laugh at you? It's so stupid sounding, yet so simple- replace all the i's with u's, and all the e's with i's. The rest is generally not far off australian, except for the REALLY strong accents.

Stand in the queue at Centrelink & talk to those queuing up - You'll pick up a Kiwi accent in no time!

1. Get a Scots surname.
2. Say "wee" when you mean "small".
3. Say "dairy" when you mean "corner shop/store".
4. Say "freezing works" when you mean "abbatoir" or "slaughterhouse".
5. Say "fush" for "fish" and "chups" for "chips".
6. Say "jandals" when you mean "Japanese style sandals".
7. Refer to the Auckland Harbour Bridge as the "Nippon clip-on".

Now move to the shaky isles for about ten years. Five years will do if you are Australian.

To my admittedly untrained ear, Kiwi accents are close to Australian, but with a stronger "ee" pronunciation.

Watch the movie "Whale Rider" a lot and start imitating the actors - they speak very authentic NZ English in it.
Here's some blurb on it:
