My advice is to A, not get a dog until you know what breed it is, and B, don't get a dog to make your other dog happy. That won't make him or her "happy". YOU make your dog happy, so YOU should spend some more time with your dog if he or she is unhappy. Go get a chuck it and find a dog park, there are lots of dogs there for your pup to play with.

If you MUST get another dog... Do not get the DoBerman. Please. I don't think it's what you're looking for.

Golden Retrievers are rather happy dogs.... If your retriever is not happy, it probably is not getting enough attention from people. They love attention!
My retriever was the sweetest thing ever and was happy as long as she got her play time with me or her walks.
Getting another dog to make a current dog happy is really a lame reason to get another dog. If you want another dog, then just state so, don't make up some lame excuse as "to make my retriever happy".
