Why do people generalize? As to money generating, all government agencies do this including add on and user fee/taxes. I am not in favor of this either but what alternative would you have for punishment? Would a 1 day traffic school instead of a fine be enough?Who pays for the instructor of that school if no money is collected? If the person ticketed had to pay the teacher, would that be ok?
I don't mind an alternative punishment if it doesn't end up costing more for the court than the person punished because then you ( and my ) taxes will go up to keep that going.
By the way, many of the young bucks I worked with, wrote more tickets in their first year than I did in any 10 years. Some like it or are bored if they aren't always being busy. I came into law enforcement under an older way of doing things.

I agree with the first person to respond to the question... no pun intended.
I see NY State Troopers (some of the world's most productive ticket writers) pull to the shoulder to check on distressed vehicles.
Police constantly get between assailants and victims (although sadly no often enough), and generally keep the peace.
The shame is when they're assigned the function of revenue generation... the whole tied-together system of tickets, fines and insurance is wicked to the core and has very little to do with encouraging safe and courteous driving. And leads to a lot of the cop-civilian resentment out there.

Good question. Maybe because their line of work requires them to be socialists and revenue collectors instead of capitolists. Very unamerican!
Lisa, what about the poor woman whose menstrual cycle almost drives her to the point of insanity and suicide every month, whose only relief is a little bit of marijuana. Cops that enforce laws against marijuana as they apply to legal aged adults can gargle my you know what because, I hate their loser guts! I don't even touch the sh!t and still feel that way.
Rtd. Sgt. Yeah, what happened to the freindly neighborhood cop that was every young kid's friend? You know the one that would try to mentor and solve problems without them always ending up in front of a judge with the pocketbook out? You know the one who would take the kids booze or drugs away and contact the parents to deal with the problem in there own way? The guy that used to put the drunks in the tank and then let them go home the next day, sobered up of course, without any charges? You know like Otis on The Any Griffith show? Yeah, I guess that's it in a nutshell. Why can't cops act more like Andy Taylor instead of Barney Fife?

That's an absurd question. Everyone hates them until their needed. Then when you get in trouble, or have an accident, their all the sudden your savior.
If I was a retarded criminal, who kept getting caught, I'd probably hate them too. The simple solution to avoid most police officers, is to not break the law. The law is a written conscience. It can't be that hard to know your doing something illegal, and if you get caught your screwed.
