She is a 4 year old chow chow. She has black discharge, extreme itching, a bad odor, blood, won't allow anybody to touch it, she always shaking her head, the flies and knats eat at her ear as well, and she pulls away if you try to touch or examine it. Like she's in some pain. I need to figure out what it is. Can some one help me?

fleas, mites, ticks, allergies to outdoor stuff, allergies to her food... these could all be the source. and you should get her to the vet. if you want some suggestions though... treat for fleas using frontline plus... shave her hair off if you have to and get it right on her skin. that will get rid of the fleas and such. your gonna have to get a muzzle on her and get a ear cleaner and then a miticide that is safe to use on open skin... sulfodene is great for soothing and healing the wounds. and look at what you are feeding her. my black lab had the same problem, switched her foods and that helped!! take some notes.... if your ingredients say byproducts, soy, wheat, corn, dies, bha, bht, ethoxyquin, beef, dairy, milk...its junk...and those are all allergins and sometimes deadly ingredients for some dogs. get her inside, give her a nice trim and a oatmeal and aloe bath... but really the best thing you can do is get her to a vet

It sounds as if she has ear mites. There is a very good product called "Thornit" which comes in powder form. It clears ear mites almost over night. You only need a pinch in each ear. It comes with instructions. Costs about £7 in the UK.
Just tap "Thornit" into your search engine and you can read all about it. You will also find a list of stockists there.
I have used it for years on my dogs and it keeps their ears as clean as a whistle. I get mine from www.groomersonline.com
Worth a try!

It sounds pretty bad and she's not going to let you do anything because it's so painful. The very best thing for her is to take her to your vet and let them sedate her so they can properly clean her ear. Sedation is safe, and it helps her out because it makes the whole situation less traumatic for her. They can give her something for pain at the same time, and get her on the right track by cleaning her ear and starting her on medication.
Until you do this, there's nothing you're going to be able to do and it won't get better by itself at this point. Good luck.

Sounds like ear mites and an infection. The only thing you can do is get her to the vet for antibiotic ear drops that have to be prescribed.

Does the black discharge look like coffee grounds? If so, she has ear mites. Take her to the vet.

This dog needs medical treatment ASAP as she has an ear infection, possibly caused by mites.

she will have or already does have maggots in there that will eat her ear.
she is going to have to be put under anesthesia to have it flushed out & treated. it would have been much easier & cheaper if you had taken her right away!
she should not be left outside either
