When you get hold of these authorities for respite care, you really need to look at the rules closely. I know some folks that have done this, and it can be the equivalent of slavery and prison all rolled together.

They will send inspectors out regularly and without notice, and if you are not there when they call, they can really make your life hard. You have to get someone to come in and grandma-sit while you go grocery shopping. You have to save every receipt and account for every dime, and you have to save all of these records in case of an audit. There is some rigamarole in being a care-giver.

You may at some point actually do better by putting her in a nursing home and then going to work for that nursing home. It puts you into the role of inspector.

Yes, It is true, and they will give you medical and dental insurance. I don't know the name of it in your county, but here is In Home Supportive Service. The number here is 510-577-1877 or 510-577-1900. Maybe they can help you with a local number. You may want to try your local county as well...God bless

It is called respit care. You need to get a hold of her case worker and they can set it all up for you. Good luck.
