That's actually a good reason to not believe in any of the gods.

To prove our faith to ourselves? Then that makes Hell a pretty cruel idea on the 'loving' God's behalf.
Free will? Again, He already knows the outcome, whether He wants to or not...It would be so much more kind of him to merely end our existence.
BTW, look at the Chapter of Job. God and Satan seem to be on pretty good terms...unfortunately for Job. I've always wondered if anyone noticed that Satan must be pretty high up if God felt he needed to prove anything to him.

Edit: Actually, we were robots until Eve ate that fruit. W/o knowledge of good and evil, how could anyone possibly have 'free will'?

Of course! God knows everything--He knows the end before the beginning. He knows the words you will speak even BEFORE you say them! IF God tests your faith, there is a reason. Trust Him.

God is all knowing (and thank God for that!) He knows exactly what I can go through and what I can't. See, not only am I supposed to be faithful to God during testing times, but He is also faithful to me. 1Corinthians 10:13 says"but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that you are able: but will with every temptation also make a way of escape, that you may be able to bear it ." So why does God test His children? Simply because God wants us to be totally dependent upon Him. Just like our own children, we want them to feel that they can depend on us for anything that they have need of. If I couldn't depend upon God then I wouldn't need him. God shows His love for us during times of testing. If I never had problems, I'd never know that God could solve them. We are tested simply to draw us to the one who does know the answer. God wants us to Ace The Test so He gives us the answer when we look to Him. But if we don't look to Him we will fail Every Time!!!

The element you are missing is free will.
We aren't God created robots - full of knowledge, faith, wisdom.
We have to grow in faith - be tested, go through pain, learn by trial - as well as have joys and wonderful times.
That is how we grow - God doesn't snap his fingers and say "ok, now you have full faith." It is up to us, how much, how little, and how much we learn and grow.
It may be tough but I am glad for all of my tests - "Consider it all joy when every type of trial befalls you" the Bible says, knowing that trials produce faith and hope.

Add: Rick Warren has said that life is not peaks and valleys, it is more like a train riding on two rails - one is the good stuff, the other is the bad. I like that.

Yes He does...

So why does He test us? Many reasons.
1) To refine us and make us pure
2) To show us our own flaws
3) Mainly so He is Glorified.

How is He glorified? When we are tested it forces us to rely completely on Him. Then through the trial He is there protecting us and helping us. Then after the trial we grow spiritually and become that much more pure. Then when we tell people what happened, we can boast in what the Lord has done in our lives, and we can encourage others who are going through the same trials.

Finding an answer from you does not mean the "asker" does not know the answer. Sometimes, it is because she wants to know what you would do, as an exercise of your free will and choice.

God knows our questions even before you ask it. And he knows the answer, too. That's what makes him God. Ours is to make choices and change the course if we wish to. But we have to make the choice instead of just letting things happen.

Somehow, there is joy in knowing that you did the choice and not leave it to chance.

God is wise that way.

Stop personifying God as a big daddy in the sky holding an accounts receivable notebook, and it will help you conceive that transcending and enveloping the transient and physical universe is an infinite and absolute source from which all physical and spiritual reality emanates and always has. Unlike physical things, this absolute, transcendent, enveloping reality is not composed and does not decompose. It always was and always is. It is the quintessential absolute ONE of all reality. Such an entity explains all reality simply and elegantly.

He shows us how we all fall short and are in need of His grace. Many will say I have great faith, but soon find out that we are weak, God allows this so His mercy on us is demonstrated through His forgiveness. He wants us to turn to Him every day, Apart from God we waiver so we need to stay close to Him.
