well, he is not going back down from his decision just because 70% of americans are against the war. He is going to be stubborn and just let time run out and leave all the problems to the next president. Obviously he got his two terms in offce out of the votes by the american people for who he did not represent.

To leave or not to leave Iraq is a tactical question which can not be decided by public but by statesmen and defense experts.Americans had their option through their elected representatives to go to war and that's it.To put the question other way round, let's ask the public as to how many of them would like America to leave Iraq now,no matter what happens to their credibility as a power, a commitment, prestige of their armed forces and instability or a civil war in Iraq risking millions of lives. It's not something like a personal matter of Bush but an international and a historical event which shall have a bearing on America for years to come.

Actually, he is agreeing to slowly pull out of iraq.
Also:
1) Those polls ARE NOT ACCURATE. Most people don't answer them except for people really opposed to the war
2) If we leave now, we can't all pull out at once, and the less people we have over there, the more of our people will die, because they will be less protected.
3) If we leave, we are making things worse. Osama wants Holy War-The entire world Muslim. You think the terrorists will stop just because we leave? It will make it a lot easier for them (think; us there = people in their way; us gone = they are free to take over and build real armies)
4) Most people in the U.S., I'm sad to say, are real idiots when it comes to the war. They hear war and deaths and think we should end automatically. Well, 3000 soldiers in 6 years is a lot better than 40,000 in 3 days at gettysburg, or the thousands in the morning at Normandy; no offence, but we are turning into real sissys. They also don't understand the religious conflict between the sunnis and shiites going on; plus, they don't ever think of the consequences of coming out.
Long story short: if we pull out, we're screwed later.
if we stay: we could get screwed, but most likely will win (eventually).

Here's the point. Iraq has been in a civil war for about a thousand years. Still are. We went to Iraq because of 9/11. Osama Bin Laden is from Afghanistan. No one has gone after him. I think what most thinking people have realize is that our resources are needed to go after Osama Bin Laden. Also no one has been able to stop the three factions in Iraq's civil war ever. Most of us have gotten over the macho thing about cut and run. Even bush and Cheney have not said it in quite some time. The only person that has kept things kind of under control was Saddam Hassan. He put his boot down. He was the only one that was allowed to determine what happened. Maybe the Iraqi people don;t think he was so bad now. They had working hospitals. 24 hour a day electricity. gas and food. Now most of them just sit in their house and hope not to die.

This country doesn't run on popular opinion. We are a representative republic. We vote for our representatives and they make decisions. If you don't like their actions, then you vote for someone else.
When Iraq started it was polled as highly popular. Now it's not. It's easy to criticise but, if you want to judge your leaders, put yourself in their shoes and ask "what would I do?".
The democrats promised to end the war if elected to congress. Why haven't they? Because they were lying and they knew it because they truly know what we can and can't do. But they don't care about honesty, they care about winning elections so they said what they thought people wanted to hear with no intentions of acting on it.
We would be in big trouble if every decison of our goverment was made by polls from people who are easy to decieve and take no accoutability for their opinion. "Today I am in favor, tomorrow I'm not and at no time do I have accountability for myself."

Most of the population was against the US Civil War as well and refered to it as "Lincoln's War." Today it was seen as a justified war. If Lincoln had bowed to public opinion, what would things be like today?
Just because its not popular, doesn't mean its wrong to do. Bush knows Iraq has to be finished. You can argue if it was right or wrong to start it, but that doesn't really matter now since its history, the present situation has to be finished. Even most of the Democrats are really just paying lip service to a withdraw, or else they would do it, because they know the same thing.

Actually, your statistic is false, probably you invented that yourself, and the Republicans aren't worried about 2008.
I do predict that there will lawyers galore at polling places all across America this Fall, and recounts beyond comprehension this Winter, but a Republican in the White House this Spring.
I'll probably vote Libertarian, but that's what I see happening.

Because the present Iraqi government forces are incapable of protecting themselves from internal and external forces. Its like taming a dog, you have to be patient. A good government is one which have a thriving and prosperous economy at the expense of others and its normal for people to winge and whine over any slight inconvenience.

This is why.
I can make this very clear and easy for you to understand.
Take your mom or sister to Iraq and drop her off there for about a month. If she survives the experience, she will have lost probably about 30 pounds, ate food that had bugs in it, had to stay in her house for fear of terrorist bombings, and drank water with live sewage in it.
I DON'T KNOW WHY PEOPLE DON'T UNDERSTAND WHAT TERRORISM IS ABOUT.
IT GOES AGAINST EVERYTHING WE HOLD DEAR TO OUR HEART AS AMERICANS.
For those of you with your head up your a s s that don't understand WHY terrorism is, LET ME EXPLAIN IT TO YOU.
TERRORISM happens because the psychotic people that used to be in charge FEAR LOSING CONTROL OF THE PEOPLE.
THEY DO NOT WANT WOMEN TO HAVE RIGHTS.
THEY DO NOT WANT THEIR WOMEN TO DRIVE.
THEY DO NOT WANT THEIR WOMEN TO BE LAWYERS, DOCTORS, OR ANY KIND OF PROFESSIONALS.
THEY DO NOT WANT THEIR WOMEN TO VOTE.
AS A MATTER OF FACT, THEY HAVE LAWS THAT ALLOW THEM TO STONE THEIR WOMEN TO DEATH FOR JUST ABOUT ANY REASON THEY CAN COME UP WITH.
THEY DO NOT WANT THEIR CHILDREN TO WEAR JEANS AND LISTEN TO ROCK AND ROLL OR RAP MUSIC. (Like every other country where the people have become FREE.)
One of the big secrets about terrorists is they thought they could bring down the world economy (our quality of life and civilization) by destroying a fair chunk of the world's petroleum distribution system. I guess you don't realize what would happen TO ANY COUNTRY ON THIS PLANET if enough of the oil distribution were interrupted. Besides not being able to drive your car, YOU COULD EASILY FREEZE IN THE WINTER. So for all of the dummies that said Bush only did this for oil, understand that without oil, the world stops turning. So yes, this war did have to do a lot with oil. Take away any country's food and you will have a war. Take away any country's land, and you will have a war. Well, taking away any country's energy source will also cause a war.
BUT THE PART THAT REALLY HURTS ME PERSONALLY, IS THE FACT THAT THEY WERE ABLE TO COME INTO OUR COUNTRY AND DESTROY OUR PYRAMIDS ON SEPTEMBER 11th. (I watched the buildings fall that day. If you didn't, try YouTube.) Over three thousand people died that day. It was America's job to protect those people. The fact that we've been at war for these few years and only lost only a little over 3,000 of our God Blessed soldiers is proof of how well we can fight a modern war. When we were fighting for your grandfather's freedom, to remove the last scourge of the planet, (Hitler), 20 MILLION OF OUR SOLDIERS DIED.
SO YOU COULD HAVE THE LIFE YOU HAVE TODAY.
Keep these facts in mind.
It may take a while, but all the FREE countries of the world WILL REMOVE TERRORISM FROM THIS PLANET.
No matter what they do, or how badly they hurt a few of us, FREEDOM WILL PREVAIL.
TERRORISTS ARE NOTHING MORE THAN THE MODERN ROACH OF PLANET EARTH.
And by the way, to the morons who say we are no safer today than 9/11, when was the last time that American soil was attacked? It seems to me that they are doing a DAMN GOOD JOB protecting us. REMEMBER, the terrorists only have to get it right once, WE have to get it right every time.

I even do not believe in this war, and I'm in the Army Reserves, but I follow orders as told. I believe that Bush is either 1.trying to make a political statement and saying that he's "all big and bad", or he really believes in this war down to his very cells and is persistent in everything that he says he'll do. it's more of a 50/50 to me cuz i don't know that guy personally.
