As a permanent resident who will just arrive in Australia, I know it is possible to sponsor my boyfriend using the fiance visa. But does this mean he can legally work in Australia?

What's the fastest way for him to come to Sydney and start working?

Thanks for all the answers!

If he arrives in Australia on a "Intending Spouse Visa" then it is a temporary two-year visa and you must marry within a year, preferably six-months. You must also show that it is a genuine marriage and not a sham. He CAN work on this visa.

Nearing the end of the two years you would be contacted by immigration and then again you must prove that your marriage is genuine, with plenty of photographs and other documentation, and if there is a child then that is even better. Shortly afterwards, the immigration department, once they are satisfied, will grant a permanent residency visa. Then, after a further two years he can apply for citizenship
