I used to feel shy presenting in front of others too. Here's the absolute answer:

KNOW YOUR S**T. Front and back.

If you know what you're talking about, it will show. You'll get their respect. But don't try to BS or bluff your way through. They'll catch you every time

A recent survey asked people what their greatest fear was, and heights and public speaking were in the top 10. It's normal.

The solution to the problem is two steps:

Prepare yourself so that you know your material is good, possible questions are anticipated, and you know where to look and not to look in the classroom to keep yourself calm, confident and sober. Wear the right clothes, stand up tall, and pretend you are confident, even if you're not.

Secondly, practice. In front of a mirror. Practice your entire presentation at least 5 times all the way through, with all of your props or graphs or charts. Study your facial expressions. Are you exuding confidence? Do you look like someone who knows what he's talking about? Can you pretend to be a public speaker, or a teacher, maybe, who gives these sort of seminars all the time? Pretend you are paid to give programs like this, and the audience is here to learn. Take charge or at least act like you are in charge.

As you can see, a lot of your success depends on how you can ACT. My daughter was terrified the first time she had to sing a solo in public. I told her to pretend she was a new singing sensation. Act, move, dance with confidence. Entertain the people. Don't know how? Pretend you do. Imagine it in your head.

You can do it. We all can. But the more practice the better. And if you have to throw up, be sure and splash some in the teacher's direction.

I used to be like that too. If you want confidence, just make sure you fully understand what you're talking about. Run it through your head a few times. And when you get up there in front of your classmates, smile and keep an ear open for your pace. Going to fast, then slow down. Talk to them as if you really want them to learn from you. Be interested in what you're saying, or else no one else will.

And don't bring the "aaaah just get it over with" attitude, don't show it either. You'll get bad marks in presentation then. Also, look at how your favorite teacher speaks in class, and watch your classmates who are good at presenting.

Just remember, you're probably not the only one nervous! Take deep breaths. ^_^

... I dont understand? ..

Jk, I know what you mean. Now im passionate on the subject, so here comes a motivational lecture even my english 3 teacher would say is too long. But here goes... In elementary and middle school i was the class clown, the most athletic, and still a genious. Now in HS i have felt that slow decline in speaking up more, and popping jokes. Its not so much my confidence isnt there. Im usually always right when i think things up real quick, and when i blurt them out it usually always makes sense. I just think our maturity levels, having increased, have given us a new challenge to overcome. (embarassing ourselves.). Well dont worry, cuz in all my years i have never really seen anyone go up to present or talk or anything and have a complete breakdown where they sound stupid, or are laughed off "stage". Even those wierd kids that have read harry potter 10 times, just last week. And read the same star wars book, every other month and act like its new so they dont have to sit there doing nothing during group or social activities dont completely embarass themselves in these situations. (Though I do pop a laugh now and then at the kid that sounds like an 80 year old elmo with turrets, who smoked for 50 years, and speaks through a hole in his neck.)

But if light me up elmo can doit, Surely you can. just your question (which many people usually share this feeling inside and no one ever lets it out), shows that you already can relate to half the room. Just be yourself. Im sure at home, just watching TV or talking on the phone you come up with all kinds of funny thoughts and clever statements, and I bet you know it too. Most people think their true humor is never seen in public, and thats true, which is a shame. Laughter, especially in HS, but really in all periods of life, is the universal foolproof way to get through a speech. You could be talking about the mating habits of cockroaches, just slip a couple suggestive lines in their and even this could be transformed into and interesting presentation to a bunch of highschool kids.

Also do not laugh at your own statements. Go in their, knowing that your funny. Hey, im the prodigy, and im telling you that your funny and very easy to agree with. thats your conformation. Now take that next time you present, and just think your terminator, and your mission is to reach the last period of your speech from the first indentation. Use Dynamics, and your own words, and you will be great. And once you get throug that first one and realize that what you thought have always been clever and funny ideas and analysis are just as funny to everyone else, hell youll have them eating out of the palm of your hand for the rest of the year. Never again will you have anxiety over an upcoming speech, instead youll anticipate another chance to share your unique, lovable self with your peers.

Most people are nervous when giving a presentation. It is not due to lack of confidence in general. The cure for it is to give many presentations, if that's the problem you want to solve, but, really, think more about the things you do right and give yourself a pat on the back.

don't worry babe I'm an out going person and i know how you feel when i first started high school i had a low self esteem and confidence and now i made new friends but i didn't get rid of my old friends but you just need to be yourself and if anyone says anything say what i say "just because I'm different, doesn't make you normal." you may make a few enemy's but who cares cos most of the people who hate you are actually jealous of what you have so don't worry be happy.

Dude, I know what you mean. It happens to a lot of people when they get to high school. It's just the idea of high school and it is a little intimidating at first. Don't worry about it though, because you'll see that as you move on through high school things will get better. Love yourself and focus on the positive aspects if your life and other people will see them too.

well, in public school theres alot less people, so you probably knew most of them, and then you get to high school and theres sooo many people there, people you dont know, people older then you, its scary stuff, so my advice is get to know the people in your class's a little better, then maybe you'll feel more confident
