I have a check from my insurance company and on that policy.. Me and my dad were in it.. the thing is i cant cash the check since my dads name is also on the check.. but my dad is in Chicago now and will be back next year.. is there any way that i can cash the check without the help of my dad???

No. You can mail the check to him, unsigned by you, to have him sign it and return it to you. Or you can't cash it.

The point is, your father has ownership interest in whatever it was that was insured - so you can't skunk him out of his share. That's why BOTH names are listed. BOTH signatures are needed.

You're going to have to mail the check to your dad to have him sign and mail back to you.

When you mail the check to your dad - you do not sign it before you mail it. If its a large check, you may want to mail it certified mail so your dad signs for it. Before you mail the check to him - you do Not sign it. That way - if it gets intercepted between you and him - the thief does not get an endorsed signature.

Sure. Mail it to him and ask him to endorse it and mail it back.
