Me and my husband both love this name, but everytime we tell someone the name, they wince in pain!

What are your first thoughts when you hear the name? My friend said "Old lady" but I just don't see that.

Since it's not my name, and I don't have to live with it the rest of my life, I want to make sure it's a good name that she won't be made fun for having. Please help! It's been on the list for 3 years now, but I'm willing to give it up if everyone hates it.

The full name would be: Rowenna Larie Lewis

I would do Rowena, that doesn't matter to me, I would just want people to pronounce it right (not Ro-weena).

Larie is pronounced like Marie. (It's after my grandmother whose name was "Val Larie") But I could just do the middle name Valerie, doesn't matter I just thought Larie would have been cool, haha, am I clueless?)

Sadly, I have a name where things can be added to the end to make a clever little phrase... so when I saw this, the first thing I thought of was "Rowenna canoe" (row in a canoe). :-/
I'm also assuming the middle name is supposed to rhyme with "Marie," but don't you think people will say "Larry" instead?
I don't have anything against unique names and I don't think the name is terribly ugly or anything, but as someone who has constantly had to correct people on saying my name all my life and deal with the additions to make a phrase... I'd say maybe you should come up with something else. Maybe something similar but not as punny.

Well i think that it shouldn't matter what other people because it your kid but if you really have second thoughts about it just find a different name I'm sure there will be one youll love but also if you still want to keep it and things dont turn out great you can nickname her something cute to go along with it but also you can have it for the first few days and if you decide you dont like it theyll let you change i i know because my sisters name was originally Nicole Brianne but my parents decided they didn't like it so now shes Brianne Nicole. Hope i helped

Rowenna does sound a bit old lady. Might I suggest Rowan? I think that's just adorable! I think kids can make fun of any name, no matter what it is. I do think you should go with something a little more "this day and age"

No! -- It sounds like the name of a third-world country... The ones on the commercials that are always needing shipments of rice, for 10 cents per day.

(edit)

"I would do Rowena, that doesn't matter to me, I would just want people to pronounce it right (not Ro-weena)." -- Okay, but if that's the case, spell it like it sounds. And for god's sake, don't add any tillies, apostraphes, or umlauts to further complicate things.

Well, to be honest, it's not that great of a name. Usually I'm all for naming your baby whatever you want because it's your baby and if you like it that's all that matters. In this case however, I do think it could cause a lot of teasing as she gets older. Just general concensus is it's not a very pretty name. It's like naming your child Eunice. Some people think it's pretty but most people won't.

It is very hard to see how you pronouce it.

First, it makes me think of the vacuum brand that is spelled somewhat similar.

Second, if you google it, there are a bunch of names that are familiar.

This is how I would pronouce it if it is spelled your way. "Row - WHEN - uh"

Do I like it, honestly no. But, it is not my child. It is yours, and as long as you are not naming it after fruit or an article of clothing, you can pretty much do what you want.

I agree with another answerer, that you should drop one of the N's,otherwise it's a fine name.Don't pay any attention to those other people, you and your husband like the name,it's your child, name her what you like.Besides,if Rowena grows up to have a wonderful personality, everyone will be happy to call her by that name.

I love the name Rowenna! When I first hear that name, I think of Rome, Italy. ROme, ROwenna, I think you see my point. I love the entire name, except, the middle name, Larie, doesn't add up to the beauty of all the other names. I suggest, instead of Larie, Liara, Leighanne, or Lianna. Now that...that adds up to the beauty!

I hope I helped! Happy naming...

I'm sorry I really don't like it.
It makes me think of Rowena Ravenclaw from Harry Potter. That was my first reaction.
It isn't a very popular name, but if you're looking for something unique, I'd go with something else.
I dunno. Think of all the ways she could get teased....
Ro-weinie, Ro-weiner....i dunno

I think the middle name's unique, but would it be pronounced like Larry? Cus then She will totally get teased. Seriously, kids these days are vicious. I would know, cus I'm in high school.

ooo i agree w/ the answer above. Rowena sounds WAAAAAY WaAAY!! WAYY!! BETTER!!!
