Was it reported to the police? Try calling the police department that came to the accident scene. Either that or the insurance company might have records.

If you know the date of loss, location of loss, drivers involved and which police department investigated the incident - then you can mail a request into the police department for a copy of the accident report. You will need to call the records department for the PD ahead of time and find out the fee for the report and what address to send the request to.

All the sites charge money. The most reliable seems to be Carfax. You need to know the most basic stuff the the VIN. I think its like $19.95 which is not bad if its between buying a lemon or not.

Contact the claims office that handled your claim (for instance, if you were with Geico, call the 800 # and ask them how to find it). They can give you a print out of summary of the claim.

You'll have to have the VIN # of the car you're wanting to research. Go to CARFAX and enter the # IT will give you past service and accident details.
