A few years ago I was having terrible back pain - more then usual. My husband and mom talked me into visiting a chiropractor and he took x-rays and said I have sponylothesis. The x-rays showed my lower spine curved to the left and in that curve there were two vertibres that were out of alignment, the top one wash out in front of the bottom one by about 1/4".

He said I was born that way and it would just get worse as I age. He also said there was nothing he could do about it.

He was right. For the past 4 years I have been sleeping on the couch because the bed makes my back hurt. And I can only do about an hours worth of housework at a time. Also I have gotten to where I can only stand for about 5 minutes then my back starts to hurt. I then have to lean against something or sit down.

Basically, I want to know what the difference between scoliosis and spondylothesis is.

Thanks!

Scoliosis is a curvature of the spine. It's very common and though it can cause some back aches is mostly very manageable by keeping your abs strong thru sit ups, etc. and keeping your weight down.
Spondylolistheis is where one vertebrae (bone in your back) slides up or forward on the one that should be above it and it's fairly unusual.
You need to go to an orthopedic dr or a sports medicine dr. While there is not much a chiropractor can do, you need to get a complete idea about what is wrong w/ your back b/c there is a lot you can do about it.

Scoliosis is a curvature of the spine. Spondylolisthesis occurs when one vertebra slips forward on the adjacent vertebrae. This will produce both a gradual deformity of the lower spine but also a narrowing of the vertebral canal. It is often associated with pain. I hope this helps you understand it a little better.

basically the same thing, and there is treatment for it, go to a doctor of osteopathy instead of a chiropractor, just because he couldn't help you doesn't mean no one can.
