It occurs at least everyother day and it is very srtong and unpleasant. I also have a young female beagle who has the same diet but has no smell problems.

Yup Like some others have said it's his anal glands. You need to bring him to the vets or to your groomers to have them expressed.
It's is a disgusting smell isn't it!

Anal Glands.
See if you can find a food that will firm up the stools better so that the anal glands can work like they are supposed to. Softer mushy poop does not allow them to empty each time they go, so they fill and release at the wrong time.
The dog needs a better diet. Less Grains.

LOL I didn't think of the Anal glands. My labs haven't had THAT problem THANK GOD... We just ALWAYs have stinky ears. Although they don't smell like fish... just yeasty...

yeast sounds like the big problem there but I could be wrong, how ARE his ears? Goldens can get bad ear eax issues

Yep, anal glands. Have them checked--they secrete a liquid I like to term "dead fish smell" at our hospital. Nothing like it!

Ears or anals- have a vet check both.
