I mean really, if my father had started a business, remarried, hired his children, then left everything for his current wife and nothing, not even a division for his children to run, I would be upset as well. The fact that Jr hasn't won this year, I think, has no bearing on the situation. Maybe the fact that Theresa has given him lousy equipment has a lot to do with the problem. The fact that she changed his crew in beginning of the season, told me she wanted him gone. It looked as if Theresa was trying to push him out, due to the popularity Jr has. I am very happy Jr is going to Hendrick, maybe there he'll be treated fairly and equally. Not like a wicked stepson, by a wicked stepmother. The mere idea that Jr needed to decide whether or not to be a driver or celebrity, just amazed me. Good luck Jr, in the #88 at Hendrick. I can't wait until next season. Go Jr.

Prediction,

Jr will own DEI in 3 to 4 years and it will be for all the kids.

Teresa has a four car team with one star, Mark Martin. Truex is ok but has won ONE race and is far from becoming a star or a threat to win at every race. When mark leaves you have one good driver, 2 new drivers and whoever she can get for the 4th team. You need 4 great sponsors and she wont be able to get them. It wont take long after that. The team will be a money pit while Jr is making 40+million a year. Do the math.

Sometimes the truth is kind of sad. I know Junior will do better at Hendrick and i'm happy for him. Two things that seem rather sad is the fact that he couldn't keep the #8 and the fact that Martin Truex is going to be his competitor. I'm sure Dale Earnhardt is rolling in his grave, being the kind of guy who would never have wanted his son to have to go through this. Nepotism can lead to bad production within a business and this is a prime example, but it's usually the employee not the owner causing the greif between family members. Somewhere in Juniors mind. as hard as it is, he's done the right thing, and the 2008 season is going to tell the big story. When it all comes down the line the person with the most deceit will suffer the worse. And like I always said Dale Earnhardt Jr. is just too nice of a guy. I hope when he drives for Hendrick, he becomes evil as soon as the pace car leaves the field.

I have the movie 3 on DVD. I love watching the interview with Sr. and Jr.
You could just sense how proud Dale Sr. was of his son's accomplishments and then to hear her run her mouth about Jr. having to decide if he wanted to be a celebrity or a race car driver just rubbed me the wrong way.
Then the whole number deal. There was no sponsor or driver associated with the number when Jr. asked for it. I don't think Sr. would have ever treated him the way she has.
On a positive note, I think Dale Jr. will have much success with Hendrick and I think Rick will do alot to help Jr. with JRM. I was and am still a huge Dale Sr. fan but I am no longer a fan of DEI.
It's really a shame.

there is no deciding about being a driver or a celebrity anymore-jr. is both as are the other drivers. they only spend about 10% of their time behind the wheel. winning isn't the only thing that draws (and holds!) sponsorships. sr. and teresa built that business together, long before jr. was a well-known or popular driver. there is no way to know exactly what sr.'s plans were at the time of his death and only his family knows for sure how this was supposed to play out. jr. had a CONTRACT with dei like other drivers, and he had the OPTION to stay or leave. a completely seperate issue from ownership of the business, as well it should be!
perhaps jr.'s onwership was based on something that is private only to the family and the business;maybe it was to come to him at a certain age or after a certain number of years past sr.'s death. perhaps he was to BUY out to get control of 51% and didn't want to invest but thought he deserved it because of his namesake, we could "if" this forever. truth is we only know what they tell us.
if sr. WERE alive, and jr. left dei anyway, would you feel the same way? sr. would have wanted jr. to do whatever would benefit him most professionally, and right now, that is to be with hms. jr. wanted to do what benefits him most personally and that was to take control of dei. traditionally it has not been beneficial for an owner of sr.'s caliber to drive for his own team. that's how sr. got the ride with rcr! richard wanted a business, and he couldn't drive it and own it.
please, it's been done. dei will be dei without jr. it's dale earnhardt, inc, no jr. involved and teresa will run it how she sees fit and according to whatever sr. and she had agreed on contractually before his death. and jr. will flourish and be more than competitive at hms. besides he has his OWN company to concentrate on! let's put it behind us and look forward to see if jr. has the insight (and not necessarily the skills) of his father and watch to see what comes out of his garage! good luck and GOD bless all jr. fans!

GO #31!!!

Not in NASCAR. Unless you're Bill Gates or the Hilton's you just can't compete independently with you're own money. It's a shame but it's all about the money. Even teams that seemed to have great backing like Evernham racing with Dodge needed support. With DEI though, Ginn is indepently wealthy and DEI was a good established team that just needs that extra push, and a few dollars, to be great.

Not in Nascar. It's all about money and which team can get the upper hand. I think there was a lot going on in the DEI camp that we will never know. I really hate it that Jr. had to leave his father's company. It is a shame.

He was married to Theresa before he started DEI. She was with him before he stated racing in NASCAR. I believe that JR deserves a part of that team, but he ultimately decided to leave. I think though that we can speculate on their family matters, but we are not a Part of that family and we do not know all that is going on. I'm sure that JR is as much to blame as she is.
Regardless....it is what it is. It really don't matter who he drives for. If he's gonna win this will be his best chance. I think the best chance for an Earnhardt to become a NEXTEL champ will be in Jeffery.
