Cat Belly Rub

I suppose every cat is different, but out of the 9 cats I've been mommy to, they all loved to have their belly rubbed. I currently have 5 and they can't get enough. Little Bella will run in front of me or my husband and flop down for a belly rub over and over again.

No, it's not true...

The only reason is it's wise not to as most cats dislike their belly being touched and tend to lash out with their claws.

I have a very placid white cat who LOVES having her belly rubbed. She will throw herself down on the grass and plead in a meowing way to have her belly rubbed... How's that!

She doesn't throw herself down inside so I don't know the reason. She's 11 at Christmas time. She's also a very talkative cat and tells me what she wants.

It is Not true that you aren't supposed to rub a cat's belly. However, some cats may not like belly rubs while others crave it.

Friendly, trusting and affectionate kittens/cats are most likely to like, if not love belly rubs. Unfriendly, wary and unaffectionate cats might not like it at all. Of course there's always exceptions.

I believe it has a lot to do with how they were socialized as kittens. If they were handled a lot by people and touched all over their bodies when they were young they will probably like all kinds of touching as adults.

It is true that allowing you to touch their belly is one of the highest forms of trust as that is their most vulnerable area. A cat might allow some members of a household to touch and rub them there and not trust others.

If that particular cat doesn't like it, then yes but if they are anything like my kittens who lay on their back and spread their legs as wide as they can so that you rub their belly, then no. Cats aren't stupid like dogs, if they don't like something they will let u know. My friends cats like their tails being pulled coz they waive them in front of u till u do it and then come back 4 u 2 do it again, I was led 2 believe they didn't like that, just goes 2 show!

There are some cats that have sensitive bellies. But I have a 3 year old cat and he loves when I rub his belly. When I walk in the door, he rolls over so that I can give him a rub, and he loves it when we wake up in the morning. Some cats love it and some hate it

I've never heard that you're not supposed to. Apparently their bellies are sensitive because usually if you rub it, the cat will try to gently bite you or scratch you. I've rubbed my cats' bellies, though, and it just seems to make them playful.

Yea Ive never heard that your not supposed to...every cat is different and I think its just a matter if the cat likes it or not..I have 2 cats they both hate it I like to think its a tickle spot because they always try to get my hand away when I try to rub their bellies and then come back and beg for more attention.
