You need to apply for unemployment. There will probably be a 4-6 weeks waiting period before getting benefits. I know in Missouri you can file on line.

Apply either way, if it was through your fault, or no fault of your own (i.e. laid off or a seasonal job).
If you get denied most states have an appeals process where you can make a case against your employer, but these are usually drawn out and can take well past the time it takes you to get another job, a lot of hoops to jump through.
I wish you luck!

First, apply.
If denied, appeal.
The appeals board will try to determine if there was "gross misconduct". If you didn't expose yourself or threaten to bomb the office, you should win the appeal.
Meanwhile, ask your bar association for a referral to an employment lawyer who will give you a half-hour free consultation. He/she can suggest how to prepare the appeal and look for other claims such as age discrimination.
If the lawyer offers to take the case on contingency, that's an excellent sign. Go for it.

just go ahead and file and let the state decide whether or not you are eligible.
However if you were fired for any of the following you will probably not get it;
Theft or embezzlement
Threats or committing a violent act
Violation of drug/alcohol policy
Insubordination
Sabotage or tampering/destruction of property or equipment
Reckless endangerment
Harassment
If it was for something like excessive absenteeism you will probably get it.

Apply for benefits; usually if your employer does not fight it you will get it. Also depends on why you got fired. Were you fired for cause? If so, it is hard to get benefits. However, you certainly can apply.
